I named my son a name I didn't like and used a cutesy nickname until he started school at age 5. Now I still don't love the name but I love him! He's a teen now and it doesn't matter anymore. Hahaha I call my Ayala Lali because I hated the name.
The nickname is only family and friends though because Israelis don't understand it.
She's Ayala Hinda after GMIL. Dunno if fil counts it as if we named after his mother or not but it's the thought that counts. She was Hinda.

OP, the first thing I thought of was missy. Then Shula, then shuli. Is there an option to put it together with another name and then use the other name?

Mine is also Ayalula or Luli or Lolly Pop. Sometimes Pop for short.

I love the name Shulamis! I have the cutest little SIL named Shulamis, she’s really adorable. We call her a bunch of silly nicknames like Lala, etc. My toddler calls her “Mamish” which we all think is hilarious.

My cousin is nicknamed Shuli, I love that. I went to highschool with a Shula. Both are pretty standard nicknames.
My niece is nicknamed Shusha or Shushka which are so cute. There is also Shu-Shu or Shushi or Shishi.
You could do Lissy, though it is a bit more farfetched.

Stick with the original name.
May your daughter emulate her grandmother.
It’s a nice name and an honor to have it.
Will there be future cousins who will have that name? How would your daughter feel if her cousins are all called by the grandmothers name but she is called by something different?
If you’re really having a hard time with the name then add another name. Like Bracha, malka, ahuva….

I feel the same way about the name and I didn’t like any nicknames for it but I wanted to honor a relative. In the end I picked a name I liked and named Shulamis as second name and my daughter is called by the name I picked. It made everyone happy

A young shulamis I know is called shushu by her family. Can't says I like that nickname.
But they also call her shulamis.

Shuli and shula don't have to be pronounced with a "shoe" sound, it could sound like Ashkenazim said shul, with a softer u
