Shulamis was my MIL's mother. If I have a girl I know it would be very meaningful to my MIL to have a grandchild named after her. But I really hate how it sounds and I also don't like any of the nicknames that I know. I love my MIL, her mother was a very special individual, I like that Shulamis is found in Tanach and that it has a nice meaning. But I still don't like the name.

(yes I know I do not have to use it and my ILs don't get a say. start a spinoff.)

If you want you can pronounce it the Israeli way Shulamit.

Or use it as a second name.

If you pronounce it Shulamis, what about calling her Missy?

I don't have any ideas for a nickname

But, I want to give you chizzuk if you do go with the name.
My MILs mother had a very heavy Yiddish name. My dd was born a year after she passed away. No other females to name after. It was absolutely clear we were naming after her. I thought the Hebrew version would be so much better and prettier. Dd was born on a Sunday and we only name on Shabbos, so I had an entire week to think about this. I ended up saying nothing to my husband about possibly going with the Hebrew version.

That Yiddish name? Absolutely 100% perfect for my daughter. Like not even a question or doubt! The Hebrew name? So NOT my daughter! She even thanked me once for not giving her the Hebrew version. Lol.

I hope the name if you use it is as perfect a fit as ours was for our dd.

Not keen on the name shulamis/t, maybe slightly better.
How about Mimi, taking the end part and making it a nickname?

Your mil will be so touched if u do use it in any form

My friends was really really close to her grandmother named Shulamis . Her grandmother passed away and her daughter was born a few months later . She was very torn but ended up naming her Shulamis and calling her shelli! I love it and she’s the cutest little girl.

I really would not call her Missy.

Mimi sounds like a better option.

Mimi is a nickname for miriam. That could get confusing
Missy doesn't sound Jewish. I don't get the point of farfetched nicknames

Do you have older kids? Maybe they would come up with a name organically.

I don't like the nickname Shuli either Sad the whole "shoe" sound turns me off.

I thought of Missy but it sounds like a reprimand to me lol. "Look what you did, missy!" Also doesn't sound super Jewish.

Call her Lali.

Make up some nickname to call her until u get used to the name and love the child.

I named my son a name I didn't like and used a cutesy nickname until he started school at age 5. Now I still don't love the name but I love him! He's a teen now and it doesn't matter anymore. Although beware, because my mil insisted on using the full name and not my chosen nickname and refused to use it because she said it wasn't her father's name. I felt like she should understand that my child is not her father! It upset me hugely at the time, but she's disrespectful like that on a lot of things u gotta know your people.

Would you add a name? I know someone who was named ahuva shulamis and she is basically called ahuva.
Personally I don’t have a problem with shulamis and would be fine using it.
