About Kasparov: He does (or used to do) simultanous matches where people present can sit down and play him, and I once was at such an event, but I decided that I was so weak at chess that I did not need Kasparov to beat me, my friend's nine year old daughter could do that just as well, so I did not play him.

Yes. To a different state , new career, no family no friends . It was hard at the beginning but BH ended up being a really great situation.
