I never received a cookbook when I got married and here I am a year and a half later; having guests for the first time on shavous and decided that its time to buy one.
dh is a really picky eater so its more for myself and any guests we may have.
I'm looking for a basic cookbook with the usual + some interesting things to try out.
(ps not like the one my sister has; she couldnt even find a basic cheesecake in there; only fancy shmancy patchke ones)
now sometimes I do like to patchke; so its gotta have some of that too.
ps I'm eagerly looking forward to the imamother cookbook but I dont think its gonna be ready before shavuous
THANX DEWYT FOR ALL YOUR HARD WORK!
SO..... any suggestions?
which cookbooks do you like?

You need a good basic cookbook like the purple Lub. Spice and Spirit. There are other very good cookbooks too - you might want to browse a bookstore or library - and look for them at half.com since cookbooks can run you thirty bucks!

If this is going to be your ONLY cookbook, then the Spice and Spirit is the way to go. It's the staple cookbook, and then you build from there.
I've also heard great things about "What's Cooking?". the next time I buy a cookbook, that's the one I want. I heard from many people that it has simple tasty dishes.

I like Spice and Spirit, but this one (Balabuste's Choice) is more up to date.

I wanted to buy What's Cooking, but the store I was at didn't have it. So I got something called Simple Pleasures, but I don't know if it's only available locally. It has pretty simple down to earth recipes as well as some others I want to dare myself to try

Is imamother really coming out with a cookbook, or it's just some kind of joke?

I am not a fancy cook, and don`t like to fuss. I basically like simple, easy and fast cooking, with the occasional challenges. So my favourite cookbooks to use are:
Second Helpings Please
Simple Pleasures
Spice and Spirit
I could live with just these three cookbooks.
And then of course there is the binder of typed recipes that I copied from my mother`s recipe cards.
