Yes, he has adhd and I understand that this is a common struggle. I'm looking for tools to help him. He gets overwhelmed very easily and it becomes a huge fight to get him to get started on a big project. He is in 5th grade and gets book reports and other stuff that needs to be done over time (as opposed to a sheet that can be done in a few minutes). Meds don't help because this is happening after school when they've worn off. We've tried timers (do the thing for 10 minutes and then you can take a break for 10 minutes), we've tried taking away privileges (no X until it's done). We've set up calendars and lists to break things down into manageable, small tasks. It is still a huuuuge fight every time, every day until the due date (it does always end up getting done on time somehow). I don't want this to be such a misery. And obviously he can't "just do it" because of course if he could, he wouldn't waste time complaining and losing out on other things he would rather be doing. I just don't know what else to try. Oh, and he refuses therapy. He's very sensitive about his diagnosis (no idea why, dh and two other siblings have it too).
