Hi- I am currently teaching 12th grade Chumash and my school asked that I go through the avos starting with Avraham etc and also the imahos. Has anyone taught this subject before thematically? I am a little bit lost. If anyone can help/ send ideas I’d really appreciate it!

I haven’t taught about them but I have learnt a lot about them

Thematically, I would divide into 2 areas under one basic theme.
First is מעשה אבות סימן לבנים- this is the basic theme
It’s so important for your students to understand what that means. It’s not what you learn in 5th grade, it’s very very deep

Then, under that umbrella, I’d discuss
A) middos
B) life events

A) It’s very very interesting to learn about the middos of the avos and imahos, even more so because it forms who we are today and we can each relate to a different one based on our own experiences and personalities
Ex. Avraham- chessed, ahava, gedula
Yitchak- din, yirah, gevura
Yaakov- emes, balance, tiferes

B) every single thing that the Avos went through corresponds to our lives today. This is so long and complicated to get into but hatzlacha with all the meforshim and sforim!
Your lucky 12th graders!

I’d love to have learned this in HS
When I started learning these themes in seminary it was like a lightbulb era
Showed me the depth of Torah and relevance
Prep is huge tho good luck
