This is such a fun thread!

I'm sure I'm really dating myself...

Two I didn't see yet are Lester's, my mother used to take us shopping there, I can't remember where it was!

And most of all she took us to a store in Williamsburg that had kids stuff on the first floor and women's on the second, anyone remember the name? We bought all our shabbos clothese there.

Nathans!

Oh I remember Rickles! And there were these juke-box games, Pacman and maybe something else, in the entrance and we loved putting in a quarter or two....that was our version of computer games back then.....

As someone who grew up in a small town, it's hard for me to fathom how so many of you seem to have grown up in the same areas and shared such similar experiences yet don't necessarily know each other IRL.

That's an interesting perspective.

Are you from a small town in general or small town with regard to Jewish population?

Brooklyn (which seems to be most of the memories here) is hugely Jewish in a huge city. When I grew up in BP my block wasn't even considered heavily Jewish (we were on the wrong side of the tracks aka New Utrecht) and I remember counting at least 100 frum families on the block...

I've been living in Passaic 19 plus years. Passaic to me is "small" - it amazes me that I still don't know or at least recognize that many people when I attend an event. Yet when I attended large events in BP or Flatbush (or even Lakewood) I invariably know more people.

Funny, I didn’t even grow up in Brooklyn but we went there sometime to shop… when I was older I went to spend time with (camp) friends and then I eventually worked in BP for a few years. Never officially lived there but still remember most of the places mentioned.
Brooklyn was just THE place for frum families back then. Shopping, schools, shuls, halls…
I remember that Brooklyn had the most busses going home from camp while all the other places had 1-2 buses.
Now I think that Lakewood is THE place and according to my girls, Lakewood has the most busses in camp.

How old are you? I'm 40 and don't remember La Perville but I got married in Ateres Shlomo 22 years ago. They closed down a few years later.

Anyone old enough to remember the wedding hall the Royale on McDonald by the tracks? The first weddings I attended were there . There were very few wedding halls in BP in those days. Even Torah V’yira didn’t exist back then.

My parents made a few small simchas there!
I think I heard that they had a fire and closed down.

Maybe they do know each other! How would anyone know, with anonymous names?

Two of my siblings got married in La Perville. It was great for people with smaller families, a less expensive option because it had a lower minimum.
