I wasn't the one who made that comment but the oppisite seems like tremendous kofey tov and entitlement.

It's like "I'm asking you to support me but don't you dare expect any gratitude for it"

Nobody asked you for anything. Get off your high horse.

So who do think is paying for the food, rent, health insurance, utilities, child care etc. of those on government programs? And how do the recipients of those handouts express their appreciation to the ones who are giving it?

Don't pay it, I have no problem. We are not asking you for anything.

You didn't answer the question. Who do you think is paying for it? How are you thanking them for their handouts?

We don't owe you an answer.
We don't owe you hakaras hatov.
We don't owe you anything.
Maybe you owe yourself a better attitude, and hakaras hatov to the One Who gave you a respectable income.
I'll say it again:
Get off your high horse.

This disgusting attitude towards the poor is so nauseating and anti Torah.

Right, you are just here to just take, take, take with no thoughts of who is giving

Nope. Wrong again. I am here to be happy with the parnassah Hashem saw fit to give me, and so are you.

You don't like the way this country is run, feel free to break the law or leave. It has nothing to do with your sisters who Hashem gave less than you. So check your attitude. No one owes you anything.

Honestly, our kids and grandkids will be paying it. If moshiach doesn't come before then....

This country is in debt, our tax dollars aren't really going to what the government is spending on.

My husband and I both work in klei kodesh, make just enough not to receive any govt benefits, and are tremendously cautious of how we spend. We work hard to make sure our kids don’t feel like have-nots, and Hashem is blessing us to have what we need. (And often, even what we want!)

What do you do about medical insurance?
We are also both in klei kodesh and can't see a way to make enough to get off Medicaid, but be able to afford private insurance.

Nothing wrong with having medicaid and food stamps and what not. No one is taking from you. No one owes you anything. What a stupid post this is.

What about the Essential plan? It's for people who earn too much for Medicaid, but still low income.

I haven't heard of this... is it an NY/NJ thing? That's not where I am.

I don't know. I'm in NY, but maybe your state has something similar? Maybe call your community office or DOH.

I voted other because just last year I got vouchers. The income guidelines changed. Otherwise I have nothing else.

They are not living a better lifestyle than you (unless they’re cheating the system which is another story). It’s just not possible for someone to be living comfortably if their income is so low.

Actually quite possible. Free healthcare is a big one. No copays, deductible, monthly premiums.... then add on free food X 2 (wic and snap), cash aid, free or discounted phone service, free phone (and its an iphone!! I dont even own an iphone!), free tablet... oh and then discounts on heat and electric bills. Plus a host of other programs. I work for an organization that services those with medicaid and I see their benefits. Some of these people worked through covid and made more than me but got to keep all their benefits sanctioned by the government and won't have to pay back.
Plus there are a host of other programs that require medicaid to even apply.
Plus schools give bigger discounts to those on Medicaid even though they don't take into account the benefits they get so our incomes aren't compares apples to apples. (Eg They don't take my healthcare costs off my income and don't count that families get 10,000+ income just from the free healthcare. )
Plus local frum organizations only want to help "low income" so if you don't qualify for medicaid they barely will help. My husband lost his job and our TS didn't offer us anything when he went to them for assistance to find a job etc.

I never understood these posts.

If you are so convinced that those who are living off government programs are living the high life, and are so jealous of them, go quit your job and join them.

No one is forcing you to be on the giving end. You can cut your hours, work part time and get some programs also.

Most of the people who I know on government programs who are living the high life, are also cheating on them. In general I know very few people who remained on income based programs long term and remained honest.

Exactly. We are very far from living the high life. We are struggling just like or more than you are, and with a lot less dignity too. And then to top it off we also have to deal with disgusting attitudes like yours.
