I'm moving out of town and was teaching elementary english till now. School in new community is desperate for a hebrew teacher. I don't want to do it. They need me. But I do want the community to be successful. How much can I ask for in terms of salary? It would be my fifth year teaching.

You can ask for whatever you want. The q is if they can pay you. A small oot community will not be able to pay what an established Modox school in the city can pay... regardless of your degree or experience

True but they need me. I don't need them... Don't want to sound money hungry though

Yeah wow I was going to say at least 40-50 but that's in town, with masters, and let's say 4-5 years experience
Ask to at least match the 24k? Preparation is a big deal. Do they have a curriculum in place? Workbooks or textbooks? Someone to help you? Are you totally starting from scratch?

I'm not a teacher but I imagine you must take into account how many hours, how much prep, are there benefits of any kind? (Reduction in tuition if you send your kids to that school as well?)

Are there benefits?
Tuition reduction? Insurance? Will they pay for continued education? Resources? Supplies? Childcare?

Look 2k isn't going to make or break it. They can likely match your current salary if that's what will make it feel worth it for you to accept. Just know that your 5 years of experience will be like starting from scratch and being a first year teacher again re the curriculum. You'll have classroom management down pat (Hopefully) but nothing else will be so simple and easy. What do you want to be compensated for that - or is it even worth it? Your "why" has to be strong here. You have to really care for the school or cause especially if you're not getting the $ compensation.
