I work in a school, where on Thursdays Cholent is served for lunch. On the first day for a nursery kid, I heard her mumbling something each time she took a spoonful of cholent. I got closer and heard her say "lekoved Shabbas Kodesh Smile Confused Confused Confused

Wow, that's the kind of thing my kids used to do.

At the end of benching when I was a little girl my father instituted that he would always finish benching and turn to my mother after "hashem yevorech es amo basholom" and say "thank you for the food and for your lovely company".

We all got into the habit of saying it after benching. Including my kids.
And middle dd would always say that she would end up benching at the table by herself and find herself saying to thin air "thank you for the food and for your lovely company".!

Oh, I figured she did not like cholent and her parents taught her to eat it by saying "l'kavod Shabbos kodesh" because that is all that was being served or something.

Why would a school serve cholent anyway? Sure it is warm in the winter and inexpensive to make if you do not use a lot of meat, but most kids eart more than their fill between Shabbos and Shabbos leftovers. Although, I am not complaining. It it way healthier than the majority of school lunches at DDs school.

Thursdays lunches were the best. The school smelled heavenly from the overnight kugel and cholent. Even the staff members were excited to eat the school's lunch

Oh, I did not mean to imply that the staff would not love it. I know I would. I love cholent. My dd however wouldn't touch it with a ten foot pole. Most kids I know do not like it. But maybe I just know the wrong kids. LOL

OTOH, most adults I know love it. We have much better taste than children Wink

Many schools serve cholent on Thursday. It is basicly just cooked or baked beans, no meat.

And there are people who say "lekovod shabbos kodesh" before every dish at the shabbos seuda.

I do not know of any frum schools here (other than preschools) that serve lunch every day.
