Convince me to buy a Doona

Op, it is not a must have, no one claims it is.

For me it was very worth it. I take ubers often & have other young kids. Try taking multiple kids to a busy city destination, cars whizzing by as you try to get your brood to the sidewalk safely. It's a huge help coming from someone who used a Graco snap n go for years. By baby actuall is very comfortable & I don't use it unnecessarily.

Nuna has a new car seat called the URBN. It has rigid latch with no base. I would but it or another lightweight that can be installed easily before a Doona.

Just be aware it needs a latch system. Old cars don't have this.

I had the doona for my last baby and he and I hated it. Was very heavy and no basket. Baby was extremely uncomfortable and cried every time he was in the car. I switched him to a car seat when he was like 10 months and was much happier. I sold it and buying a regular car seat next time

I love my doona, but I barely walk anywhere we are just in and out of the car the entire day. I do find it surprising when people who live in the city and don't have a car swear by it. The price is expensive, but I am using it now for my second kid and it is still in great condition. It is definitely a worthwhile investment if you have a car and do a lot of driving.

Again I have never bumped it up or down stairs. I fold the wheels and carry it up and down with the handle in the carry position. That’s why the handle has the carry position in the first place.

The post I quoted didn’t say anything about bumping the car seat up or down stairs. It said people use the handle to take the doona up and down stairs and that’s dangerous. But that’s how it’s intended to be used.

But because it's also a stroller, many people bump it down stairs. I see it multiple times on a daily basis. My neighbors bump it up and down stairs with baby inside.

Totally depends on your needs. I didn’t get a doona because of the price and because I live two flights up and it wouldn’t be helpful to me to have to shlep it up and down. A graco Car seat is heavy enough. That being said I will admit to avoiding doing errands with my baby as much as I can because it’s such a pain to go in and out of the car. I can’t say it would be different with a doona because that’s heavy to lift in and out as well. I don’t know.

My graco will likely expire before I have another baby so we’ll see where I’m living and what I get then.

I will admit to feeling quite dumb when I’m sitting in a waiting room or something where everyone else has doonas and there I am with my nebby snap n go. I’m not super stylish and I don’t do things just cuz other ppl do, but yes I do feel dumb. I’m human and honest.

I'm going to rock the boat and I hope no tomatoes are thrown at me...

I got the doona with my first and after learning about the imapact of its design on development, I threw it out (yes - did NOT sell it as I didn't want someone else to use it.) I took a course 2 years ago from the Guttmann sisters who actually pointed out that the Doona design promotes poor regulation in babies. Yes - they sleep now but don't learn how to regulate themselves later on. I see now a huge difference with my most recent who used a Graco stroller.

Again - it's your choice but if you decide not to - you can have a real reason to stand apart from the crowd.

No carseat should be used for prolonged periods. But because a doona is also a stroller, babies are in there for longer than a standard carseat.

Before doona came along people kept their babies in car seats with snap n goes all day long. It’s not the car seat that matters but how you use it.

Since cloud q can lie flat you can use it out of the car as well.

Side note: I think the overall profile is really ugly.

I really enjoy mine and used it for a few kids. If you're in and out of the car a lot, it's VERY VERY convenient. It depends on your needs. If you're looking to use a stroller and walk a lot, then no, it is not a stroller.
