I resisted for a long time. I just bought the doona this year. I had some target coupons and one of my kids started daily therapy so I am in and out of the car constantly, and I wanted to see if this could make my mommy taxi life a little more bearable. It’s definitely better than my old car seat and snap n go. I’m not sure that it’s better than the new style car seats and snap n goes but I haven’t tried those. I would not have paid full price.

People need one because of peer pressure.
Theyre massively heavy, uncomfortable for babies, people keep their baby in it until way too old! People use it as their stroller which is ridiculous
Its not a stroller. its a car on wheels.

I did not buy one and I do not regret it.

I personally have found it super convenient. I lived in Brooklyn and would travel to my parents so it was great for the plane. Also amazing when I needed to take a taxi since I didn’t have a car. I had for 3 kids so I got my moneys worth.

I have one and really like it. I am in and out of the car a lot so it's great for me. I guess I'm 'lazy' lol because I do find it annoying to put a carseat on a snap ngo every time I go in and out somewhere. It can be a few 10 min errands in a row and the doona makes this a smooth experience. I dont know why people say its uncomfortable and abusive for babies. My baby seems to be comfortable he falls asleep in it all the time (like any other car seat). Its small and I like it for walking around the neighbourhood too. That being said it is very expensive. I got mine for free second hand. If not I just would not have the extra 5/600 and would not get it.

Most people that have the doona have it for the in and out car journeys. When you're doing carpool with kids and running into school and back to the car, it is easier to have a one click to open and then fold back into the car. Rather than opening the trunk, taking out the wheels, then unclicking the car seat from its base, attaching it to the wheels and then going to get the carpool group of kids. And then repeating the same procedure once you have the kids and are trying to get them all to sit on a seat, not just fight over the same seats, strap them all in and hope they stay calm long enough to get them all home.
It might not take that long to do the stroller and car seat, but it's still an extra. And I understand those that would take the shortcut.

A Doona is a car seat. Meant for the car. The weird part is that many that don’t drive buy one and use it for 2 years. Poor kid stares at the sky or ceiling and is in a semi laying position only.

I've definitely seen babies who are far to big to fit in it looking very squished

Honestly, I think it's overated.

I got a Doona (second hand) as everyone raves about it. It can be convenient if you're in the car alot and need to pop in and out for small errands.

But my baby (3.5 months) doesn't like it near as much as a regular stroller, and it's definitely not as comfortable. It gets sweaty in the heat, the car seat straps are way tighter than stroller straps need to be, and the position is hard to sleep in for long stretches.

So if we're going out for more than an hour or two I have to bring a regular stroller along too. Also, the lack of any basket or storage really annoys me. Even my small errands can involve a bag or two and it's hard to hold that plus my purse and push the Doona all at once. I feel so limited with it, I much prefer a stroller with big basket so if I pass a shop and decide to buy a few items, no big deal.

Planning to sell it on so hopefully won't have lost much even if we don't use it so much.

I loved the convenience of my doona but I do have to say many kids get torticollis/flat head from laying in it so long, so I would say rather don't buy if you're not into it.

I'm not a peer pressure person and I find it really convenient. It was a game changer for travel as well. I was warned that it's really heavy but it wasn't too bad for me.

Im a babysitter.
I will point out a few things that I noticed about the Doona that make me really not like it.

1) the handles feel really flimsy and not well secured to the car seat. I watch people shlep their Doona up a flight of stairs holding the handle and it really looks like the car seat is going to detach and fall down the stairs.

2) because there's no basket, people tend to overload the Doona bag, and I've seen it tip over especially at the beginning with a 6lb baby.

3) occasionally parents will have other people pick up their baby (grandparents, aunts). The Doona involves a whole complicated thing to put the handles and wheels away and buckle it in. Often times grandparents complain that they miss the old fashion car seats that didn't involve a whole process just to prepare it to be buckled in
