My DH and infant are iyh going to Israel for 3 weeks in the summer. We have never gone before. We don’t have relatives we can stay by, so we need to find accommodation that make sense. I think it’s easiest to rent an apartment for the duration of our time there, so we have a base to work out of.
Does anyone have any recommendations of how to find rental apartments that are not going to cost us much?
Does anyone think the hotel route is easier/cheaper? I get very anxious from dirty accamodations so it needs to be very decent. I also thought having a kitchen would make sense as I assume we’ll eat breakfast/lunch at home many times. Also for shabbos…
We are looking to spend under 2k on this if possible but no more than 3k. Please respond with any leads or recommendations!

I like Airbnb. It will be dependent on the location you want to be based out of.

Look at Air BNBs in Beer Sheva, that will be well under your budget. 1.5 hr drive to Jerusalem, train also goes to both places.

Btw Beer Sheva is a beautiful, fully equipped city with a hospital, university, amusement park, childrens museum, and many outdoor parks and playgrounds. If for whatever reason it is not your cup of tea, look at Tzfat (a lot further from Jerusalem though)!

You do not need to be in Tel Aviv or Jerusalem (unless you do need to be for a reason you didn't mention).

OP, what are you planning to do while you're in Israel? Will you have a car? Honestly I think unless you have a full itinerary of day trips, and a car, you should stay near the center of Jerusalem. You can explore the city by foot, and when you want to go anywhere outside jerusalem you can get a bus or a train (or rent a car, depending on where you're going.)

What do you want to see?

Depending on your itinerary it might make more sense to get separate 10-day or week-long air bnbs. For example one in Jerusalem and then one in Tzfat to use as a base while you explore the north (Tzfat, the Golan, Rosh Hanikra, the Hula valley, the Kinneret, etc).

I do recommend at least a week in Jerusalem. I'd try to get an air bnb in the city - it's definitely more expensive, but who wants to spend their vacation waking up early to catch a crowded bus? Or to end a busy day with a long trip home? Generally speaking it's worth it to be as close as you can afford to the places you're most interested in seeing. And Jerusalem has a lot to see.

With 3 full weeks I'd probably want to do 3 days in the Dead Sea area, 11 in Jerusalem, and 7 up north. YMMV.

And who cares if they have a good hospital and a university and a science museum? This is a first-time frum tourist couple travelling with an infant. Stay in Jerusalem, and maybe take a few days up North in a cute zimmer on a moshav or kibbutz with lots of outdoor space (if you rent a car) or Tzfat or Tveria (but you'd have to get there and that means travelling by bus or hiring a taxi).
