Absolutely ridiculous to put tights on boys.

Wow you need to chill.

I put tights on my girls and boys under pants and leggings to keep warm. Also it looks neater than socks.
I've also put my boys in shorts in the winter with tights. I think it looks cute. I guess I'm ridiculous. Oh and my boys are most definitely very masculine boys and if they weren't it wouldn't be because of what they wore as babies. Maybe we should ban pants for girls in case they turn out too masculine as adults

I think it's really strange that it's completely normal to put girls' clothing on boys.
I guess it's just hard to understand such a bizarre thing becoming the norm

Classy is society dependent. If a European dresses in American style classy clothing, it wouldn't be referred to as classy in Europe. Same concept here. European classy clothing doesn't mean it will be defined as classy here. In the US, these styles are rather referred to as vintage, not classy.

But if you like it - who cares how its defined. You do you (as long as your son doesn't have awareness of styles).

Referred to as vintage by who? You're not the fashion police.

I don't go for this look, but not sure why you care that others do.

The same way that it's the norm for ladies to wear pants, it never used to be.
Not sure why it's easier for you to fathom one way and not the other.
I find it weird when people are so insistent not to put leggings on baby boys just because it used to be only for girls. (Especially when leggings for girls is also a pretty new concept anyway.)

Sorry, this wasn't personal. I just stated my opinion of the style, I didnt say you can and cannot wear stuff. Nor do I care. I am allowed to state my opinion though, even if you don't care for it.

Right. And somehow it's ok for girls to wear joggers and tracksuits but boys can't wear shorts. Who made up this rule?

My main criteria when choosing my kids clothes is that it should be comfortable. I dont put baby girls in dresses because it seems so uncomfortable, and I don't put baby boys in stiff pants for same reason.

It's not personal, since I've never dressed my son that way.

But you weren't stating it as your own opinion, you said 'in the US this is considered vintage'.

There are enough men in women’s clothes these days. Really don’t need to get babies in the wrong clothing

Because as per my experience that's how its seen. If you show a random person a picture of a boy dressed in european style shorts and tights, they will look it as vintage, not classy. But you're more than welcome to disagree.

I don’t necessarily agree with winterberry’s assessment that European style isn’t considered classy in the US, I do agree that there’s a lot of overlap between American vintage and European. I’ve found most of my favorite kids brands by googling vintage or traditional kids clothing. Vintage has a little more broad definition though.

Would you put your boys in tights? If so, up to what age? Only for simchos, or with a typical Shabbos outfit?

Never!

Yuck. No.
Let me rephrase that: Not unless it were a dire, and I mean dire, emergency. Like, there's a blizzard, I have to take him to the doctor, and all I have for him is a pair of thin pants and thinner socks and nothing else to serve as another layer of clothing.

In the US it is considered vintage. Vintage is not a bad thing at all. It’s a look and it’s very in style in certain frum circles.

When my son was 2 I dressed him in vintage style shabbos clothes and took photos. The photographer used a vintage pose and printed it in black and white. My grandfather loved the photo because apparently that’s how they dressed when he was a kid.

I also used to dress my boys in tights under their long pants in the winter. It kept them much warmer than just socks, but I probably stopped doing it at around age three. I would never have dressed them in tights under shorts even though I agree that this a more European look and have seen some of my European relatives dress their bits this way. I can't say that I care for how it looks.

I have put my boys in tights for warmth plenty of times. If you don’t get cold enough weather, then you just don’t know.

I grew up in a very cold climate and now live elsewhere where it is very cold and wet in the winter.
I have never heard of putting tights on boys, even as babies.
Thrmen again, I never put tights on any babies or toddlers. It was saeatpants on top of stretchies. And double socks.

Juat curious: In which European countries is boys wearing tights the norm (in this century)?

And are we talking about babies in soft cuddly knitwear or are we talking about 8-year-olds?

I don't put boys in tights or leggings, but I don't think it's less weird to buy poofy children place dresses and put on white tights with black patent leather shoes. That also makes me cringe. I also can't stand button down sweaters over fancy sleeveless dresses I think it looks terrible. As does really weekday looking clothing on boys on shabbos. So maybe we all think anything we don't do is weird? Why do you think what your circle does is less weird?

I'm from Antwerp and it's definitely the norm here. My nephews in the UK also wear them.
And lol I'm trying to imagine an 8 year old dressed like that LOL Usually until they're toilet trained, or by 2 or 3 years old.

I had an Austrian friend living in the US who used to put tights on her boys, early elementary age, under their pants in cold weather. That was years ago, I wonder if she still does it! I remember she even managed to get them with boy patterns, like airplanes and trucks LOL
