Yes, I think this is more likely than Mrs T being the father's ex-wife.
Good point about Bella repeating her mother's way of being a victim. Maybe.
That doesn't mesh with cutting off, though.
Maybe there's some combo, meaning no one is 100% good or 100% bad/sick. Dysfunction on both sides, Mrs T and her ex-husband 's, and Bella and her husband's

Agree with this theory. And that Aryeh is her son who was taken from her since shes "incapable mother", and thats why she fainted.

But Mrs. T is described as much older "like a bubby". Aryeh's the oldest. She must be Aryeh's grandmother.

I think she is Aryeh's grandmother too. And that her husband was an abuser who alienated Bella and the other children from her. And he did some job on Bella!

My MIL who lives in another country once showed up at my door with no warning. I didn't let her in but I could certainly see situations like this IRL. Truth is stranger than fiction.

I recently heard this story from a very reliable Rav - who named the Gadol and the man in the story but I'm not sure I remember the details perfectly so I'll leave out names
It was Erev Shabbos in a home in Yerushalayim and the MIL arrived. A certain Gadol was there who only spoke Yiddish the MIL only spoke Hebrew so he told another young man (who later became famous) tell the MIL the satan comes to create strife in Shalom Bayis - and tell her to leave immediately. The young man said - am I supposed to tell her that?? And the Gadol said - yes! So he said exactly what the Gadol told him to say and the MIL left.

And that is how a MIL who is destroying a couple's SB should be treated.

I think I agree. Makes the most sense. Disordered daughter and son in law and alienated grandchildren. Very common.
