I know of someone who is marrying off her youngest child and I was asked about it. Something to do with no more kids all swept out of the house Scratching Head

now this is definitely a topic that I know about...

it is a dance where the mother and kallah (I think boys also do it) dance and the mother wears a special crown of flowers on her head. there is a machlokes some say it is the youngest who gets this dance and others say the last one to get married. about the broom, if the last one to get married is getting married, it is the mother's way of sweeping him/her out of the house and thus emptying her house Rolling Eyes

I know someone who said that she will dance with her youngest with a vaccuum hose, to suck all her children back in. the mother then dacnes with each of her children and there is a special yiddish song that goes with it.

as the youngest I was always told that I would get the mizinke dance. however, I have one brother who is older than me and not married. I really wanted to have this mizinke dance so we compromised and I told him that he can also have it. funny thing is that he is now engaged (he is the last in my family) and his kallah is the youngest with two older unmarried brothers. maybe they will both have the dance ?!?!?

I just read that when the youngest child gets married, all the children dance in front of their mother with brooms to symbolize their gratitude to her for raising them. Now, as the last one is leaving home, she can sweep out that part of her life and do so with satisfaction.

Though, in frum Jewish families the children don't actually leave their mother's house because they visit and she has nachas from her grandchildren.

I was buy a chasuna last night where the kall ais number 3 out of 11 children and teh chosson is teh youngest.

the chosson also happens to be in aveilus for his father so his siblings couldn't dance.

they did teh broom dance with the grandchildren and it was absolutely beautiful.. the grandchindren danced before her and her mil, with brooms and then she danced with her mil.... it really was nice.

I'm wonderingif they did it on the mens... I have no idea.

I had a mezinke dance since I was both the youngest and the last to get married.

This is how it looked: My father, mother and Grandma (about 100 yrs old) sat in the middle of the circle in the women's section. Mom and Grandma had wreaths on their heads. All the children (female) danced around them, including me. It was beautiful. If I could show you the picture of the absolute joy on my parents' faces I would (especially my dad). Which is not surprising, considering I "waited" till 31 to get married!

me and dh are both the youngest...the way it worked by us was my mother got a big broom..it was all decorated and a bunch of small brooms matching the big one...my mil also had a big broom and a bunch of small ones matching hers....all my nieces from both sides got the small brooms....
the broom dance music started playing and they all made belive they where sweeping me out while danceing no particular way....the photographer also took tons of pics!!

They did the mezinke dance at my wedding. Since I was too sick to move, my DH and in-laws sat beside me and others danced around us with a bunch of brooms. It wasn't the traditional dance, but it was the best that they could do given the circumstance. I thought it was weird, but then again, I didn't care what was going on around me as long as I was still conscience Smile
