Doesn't sound like a very happy child, obviously.
Has the mother noticed anything?
She does have a slim chance in being in a bigger gan, she may feel that the focus of the teachers is off her with so many other kids around, and it can cause her to open up. Or she may instantly like the teacher and decide she'll talk for the year. But she needs help anyway.

Sounds like an extreme thing for a 3 yo to be saying.

sounds like something is really really bothering her. I would try and find out whats going on at home and what things might be bothering her in the classroom so that maybe she can be helped in a loving way and taught how better ways to let out her negative feelings.

Anyone know the contact number for Shaindel Cohen in Lakewood? She is supposed to be an expert in getting kids to speak with selective mutism.
Thanks.

this case I beleive is not selective mutisim in my oppinion its more the shyness if she talks to the kids there is deffenetly nothing to worry I have the same case in my class if you would really like her to talk to you don't pressure her that will make her upset and she won't come near you. howevere there is a method my mother as a teacher used when a child didn't speak in class (the child didn't speak at all not to children /teacher) she called the child spoke to her on the phone without telling her whoshe was the child wanted to know so when she found out she stopped but the next time again was easier...she heard this method on a tape given to her by the childs mother that was very involved helping her child to talk im not sure who was talking ill try to find out anyway the child started talking to my mother-her teacher the first before talking to the other teachers who didn't put themeselves into it as much but she b"h talks to them too they have 3 teachers in the class

I had a 3 yr old in my class with select mutism, very bright child but refused to talk to me, we never pushed him, never made a big deal when he did answer questions, and the next year he matured and was more comfortable and spoke up a storm to his teacher. And this year I had a 5 year old that was a little quiet but definitely spoke to us, and the mother said that last year in a different school she never spoke. So sometimes a change of scenery or just maturing helps a lot.
As a side note, a very good book to read for all educators - "DIBS" it was a real eye opener for me.
