Do most schools have a 'brownout' (no HW) policy during Chanukah?

Yes. At least, my kids schools do. No homework over chanukah, best thing ever, wish chanukah was all year long

My son didn't come home with homework today. Hopefully it'll stay that way all week.

My pre1a boy has a cute game with a menorah and nekudos and osios.
My 2nd grader has regular kodesh homework. A few pesukim to read.
My 6th grader just has chazara.
Of the three only the 2nd grader gets english hw and no clue if she plans to give. But I also dont have these social obligations most seem to have on here.

And not for Sunday either, please. When are the girls supposed to do that? Friday - thought there's no school so they can help out at home? Shabbos and Motzai Shabbos is family time. The teenagers already spend so little time with their families, why are we taking away whatever few family moment that do exist?

I've seen teachers give no hw, but then give mandatory chazarah, because Chanukah is about learning Torah. But I find this really does mess up the no hw thing. I've also seen teachers not mandate it but give incentives. If you do yhis, make it individual and not class- it stinks to feel you're the kid that messed your class up.
Finally, please no tests scheduled for the Tuesday after Chanukah. Dd already has one, because the school needed to get some in before finals. But when so they think the girls will study? The last day of vacation.
