I'm very tempted to buy for my kids. Is it possible and easy to just buy the CD from them and a random dance mat from Amazon? I think it would come out a lot cheaper. But, I would really need it to work ok. I hate figuring out computer glitches and the like. I always get so frustrated.

It would come out a little cheaper. Not a lot. And setup won’t be as easy. Not worth it imo.

It comes out about $70 cheaper... To me it's a lot of money ;-). But, yeah, that's my question if it's worth the possible frustration. Did you do it the cheaper way? Or are you assuming it'll be hard?

Wow when I priced it out it was much closer in price. It was a few years back (2020 during Covid lockdowns) and there was a thread here that convinced me not to do it. I think it was a $20 difference at the time. Or even less.

Maybe search for the old thread

Can I have a link to it?
Does it only work with internet?

Yeah for that difference, I would definitely get the original. I guess prices changed!

I would rather hear more updated opinions, especially how the mats hold up. The step it up basic or the Amazon ones.

No, it has a CD for the music/program and USB for the mat.

Does anyone have any thoughts on this? Experience with either option?

Bump...

If I'm going to order for Chanukah, I really need to place the order today/tomorrow. Can anyone please chime in with their opinions on to save the $70 and the interface should work together? Or just go for the real thing and spend the money?

I can't compare the 2 as I only bought the real one just chiming in to say that my kids love it - we bought 2 mats so they can play against each other. Holding up excellent

Someone gave it to us as a gift a few years back with two dance mats off Amazon. When I take it out my kids love it, but it is a major pain to set up. Not sure if ours was just a bad set or any generic brand will be the same. I have to reconfigure the controls each time we play. We don't use it very often probably for that reason.
That is a big difference in price though, I'm not sure what to say...

Sounds so interesting
How does it hook up to computer? Easy to set up? There seem to be numerous variations available which one to get?

Ok I decided to go all with Step it up no Amazon mats. But, now- has anyone bought the slight defect ones for $24 off altogether? I don't want it to be a silly mistake buying an already ripped mat just to save $24. Otoh I'd love to make this slightly more affordable.

I think you made the right choice. I've learned over the years that if you're going to buy something you want to last and be used well, rarely is it worth the small savings by comprising on quality

My kids have been happy BH with their gift. But, at the end they didn't have any brand new ones in stock and I ended up with the discounted ones. The lady said they are working find and has a tiny three cm rip with duct tape on it. They got no complaints...
BH the rip is not noticeable. But, I have had to reset the pads at least five times since we got it last week. And this is their brand pads...
I do need to call and find out if this is normal.

Sorry I don’t have an answer for you, OP, but I’ve been following bec I’m interested in purchasing one too. What age would you say it is most geared for?
