I wouldn't worry too much about what somebody else's nutritionist tells them. We don't know what kind of diet she favors. Some push low fat diets with plenty of carbs, others push high protein diets, others follow glycemic index, some simply count calories. Depending on philosophy, some will say steamed rice is great and some will say it's like poison. Unless you are specifically following their plan, no point in getting hung up on one comment.

In general I was told to assume there is about 1/2 cup rice per sushi roll (typically 8 pieces). I think it's less unless you get those monster rolls, but ok. If you want to eat an order of 3 rolls but cut out some of the rice, most restaurants offer a few riceless rolls where they just wrap everything in cucumber. I don't personally enjoy them as much, but it is an option to try if you're worried about the rice. Or you could cut out one roll and add a salad. No big deal.

Overall, again ,really depending on the particular diet you are following, if any, I think sushi is a much better choice then almost anything else you'd order in the average restaurant.

Freund's has Atkin's Sushi (dieter's roll) that's wrapped in cucumber and/or fish. You can have 3-4 of those and 1 made with brown rice, which they do have. I'm very satisfied after eating that. I think they have great sushi and they deliver. 718-851-3835 we have it every week! As for the worms in the seaweed, the have a very strict Hechsher, so I can't believe it to be an issue.

A coworker came in with some sushi with brown rice from Whole Foods and it gave me the idea to start making it at home. I use a short grain brown rice and I make it with the same seasonings as regular sushi rice.
