Hello
It's seminary application season and we are overwhelmed at the options. Please, does anyone have suggestions for centrist or open minded BY type seminary for OOT girls? My DD is very academically driven but really wants to grow as a Bas Yisroel and maybe a very academic seminary could be a turn-off? this is our first time navigating the waters. We don't have an actual dedicated advisor at her school for this.

Please look into Bnos Avigial. It is a Neve seminary and fits your description exactly.

My daughter sounds so similar to yours and machon raya is her top choice and then bnos Sarah.

Machon Raaya was suggested to my DD also but then with the caveat that there is a new menaheles this year but I think the previous one is starting a new seminary called Machon Sara?

I didn’t know that. I wonder what the changes are going to look like

I would not suggest bnos Sarah for a girl looking for a non academic program. I’ve already sent 3 girls from our opt by- I had my eye on machon raaya for my next daughter but am curious about machon Sara too.

Machon raya is heavy on academic work as well. DD chose to go to Bnos avigail for that reason

I didn’t find Bnos Sarah to be so academic at all, the most challenging part was the classes being in Hebrew.
( I went one of the first years so maybe it’s changed )

And my daughter didn't have any problem with the Hebrew but found it pretty challenging academically.

Bnos Avigayil came to mind right away. Machon Raaya sounds like the right fit academically, but over the last number of years it has become quite “in-towny.” If your DD can handle lots of wealthy in town girls, she should go for it. Look in to Machon Sarah as well. My sense is that they are going to attract more of a range of girls in town and OOT. Bnos Avigayil is very OOT. Small percentage in town.

Meohr could work as well. My daughter’s good friend went there. She’s a very academic girl but didn’t want that to be the focus of her year. Loved it.

Bnos sara and machon raya are not usually options for the same girl. They are quite different. Bs is very yeshivish and mr is much more middle of the road.

It’s known to be extremely challenging. My daughter who had no problem sailing thru a challenging high school is working so hard doing very complex reports. Even my husband is challenged when she asks for help with her assignments. It’s known to be the top tier of academically challenging seminaries.

There is plenty of overlap. Bnos Sarah isn't typical in town yeshivish and many girls can fit into machon raya

Slightly off topic, but where are all the ads in the magazines for seminaries? Usually right after Sukkos for about 3-4 weeks, many of the seminaries advertise in Family First and you can get an idea of the landscape.
I haven't seen a thing yet.

The seminaries are HUGE this year! So many girls applied and got accepted (and send sent out too many acceptances for the space they had.) Could be the send don't NEED to advertise this year once again. It was really a zoo last year!

So I've been reading all the prior seminary threads as well.
I don't think my DD would enjoy Bnos Sara due to the amount of Hebrew. She would be too stressed for the first few months I think.
She also doesn't gel at all with more high maintenance girls. That's probably the wrong term. She is not in to being with the "in-crowd". First of all, there is no in-crowd at her school. She is a low-key, sporty, no make-up, seriously OOT girl.
So not sure about Machon Raaya based on what I've seen as a repeat comment about type.
Ateres? Seems like a possibility. But is it academic enough but not too much?
Darchei Binah?
As a mother, aside from good hashkafah fit, I feel like it's really important that girls shouldn't have to worry about cooking 2 out of their 3 meals per day and also don't have to worry about Shabbos accomodations. And especially for 25-27,000 per year.
