Trying to find something to subscribe to for engaging reading material for kids who are a little hard to reach. I'm thinking current events might grab them and open discussions and responses. I googled and I see Washington Post has a kids edition ($40 a year or $4 a week). I know Hamodia has a kids news section that is sold separately for schools but I'm not sure if you can get it as an individual or how much it costs. I see you can get web access to the whole paper for $7/month but I'm only really interested if I could print out articles.

I don't know about the relative quality or reading level of either of these.

Curious what resources others have used for this and what you can share about them.

If you're not averse to secular options, then check out The Week Jr. My parents got it for our oldest for a couple of years until she lost interest because the reading level was a bit low for her. It's better for elementary than middle school.

National Geographic magazine for kids appealed for longer.

My children come home with photocopied papers called news on the run. I think it's made for school. Not all on the same level.
They love it!
(If you google news on the run lakewood n.j a phone number comes up. Call them!)

Binyan has a kids newsletter (think we used it in school)

New on the run is great, they have it in all different levels for different grades.

It's really nice and written well. I read it every week when they bring it home.

You can contact Mrs. Gastfreund in Lakewood for them.

Thanks!
I should have clarified I'm looking for an interest level of grades 7-8.
Binyan (Hamodia) might be good but I'm not sure they sell it separately, I'll reach out to them.
I found National Geographic Kids to be vapid in the last few years.
Do you know how to contact this Mrs. Gastfreund? Is that the number that turned up in Lakewood?
Doing some homework later, thank you all!

I also like this website.

Also newsomatic-if you have internet access in school they have videos and slideshows to go along with the articles. Kids love it.

Me, an adult, learns so much from news on the run! We love it! It’s geared to little kids.

Binyan (Hamodia) standalone is only sold in bulk to schools, as far as I can tell, though I sent them a follow up request.

Does News on the Run have an email address or do I just really need to find time to call?

No internet access, must be printable.

Thanks again!

This looks really interesting. Do you recall if it had a liberal slant or if it was just straight up news/current events reporting?
