No. It fits none of the definitions of a cult. It's for people who have done strong, unpopular opinions so that's why you'll hear it called such

It’s mostly an extended family. My great-aunt and her kids. So no official leader at this point.

There are a few strong, persuasive, somewhat charming personalities in the group. Some are women so I’m not sure how this will play out but they have a lot of cult-ish ideas and structures going on, even before they moved. It’s very new so time will tell.

I spoke to some people who live there and who visited there.
There are about 18 families now. One family for sure homeschools but most are in their cheder.
There are many children.
They used to use the Indianapolis mikvah and now have their own.
Housing and land is inexpensive compared to east coast.
One person bakes and sells. They bring food on a truck.
Some ppl have jobs they can do online or by phone.
One family has a farm.
Some of the ppl are fanatically anti Zionist (protested in Indianapolis at an Israeli event).
Very hospitable
All chaseedish families, not sure which group of chassidus.
Not all of them came as a group.
The city they live in is centerville, far from any frum community.
If you’re looking into it, perhaps see if you can visit.
Hatzlacha!

I just want to add that, if you read about the history of many shtetls in Europe, this is how it started. It can be wonderful, but go with caution. Do you research, don’t go by hearsay. Not even what I say😉.

They did amazing chesed when we were in Indiana for medical reasons. There was no underlying agenda. The community- A bit interesting and radical, maybe.. but sinister I don't think so.

I’ll respectfully disagree. A friend who visited had and has no intention of living there. They visited bc they are genuinely curious. Wife didn’t wear a long sheitel out of respect. They were treated very nicely.

I’m not chassidish so am unfamiliar with the nuances . I’ve never lived among chassidish families to get a proper feel. I think it would be best to take a trip. Visit the girls and boys cheder. Spend two days there. Or talk to three or four families who live there.
You’ll have to ask lots of open ended questions to understand their hashkafa, their goals, their life style etc. Not yes and no questions.
Report back to benefit the rest of us.
This might be the next monsey in a few decades from now!

I know several people who moved there.
All of them very extreme “farfrumt” people who believe the frum world today is down the drain and that the government is controlling and abusing us through vaccines etc etc. One family I know is ex lev tahor but still very brainwashed and messed up and tries to “protect” his children from the frum society because “they are not really frum”.
It’s not a balanced stable crowd as far as I know and I would stay far away
