Mama Bear wrote: | ladies, on the spur of the moment I ended up doing pics today at Fraidy Kaufman. I'm so happy!!!! she spent 1 1/2 hours with me, and I get 18 pictures for $65.00. My son didnt cooperate at first but then my mother came over and witha n extra set of hands we Bh got some ADORABLE shots!!!! I am so so happy. (WiseSnap is $100 for 7 pics and she gives you 20 minutes.) I'm so happy for the money I saved. Fraidy is amazing. Unfortuantely she is booked til the summer, she was a doll to push me in today from 1 second to the next. yaya! all done! |
Who is Fraidy Kaufman?
Wise Snap does NOT give you 20 minutes - she gave us as much time as needed. I think she gave us about 1-1/2 hours.
Yes, do make sure to get some summer shots when your Shimmie has a suntan.

Is that all of one pose? If the answer is yes, please explain the logic and need behind this. This is what the large chain stores give you and quite honestly, I have dozens of the same photos in all different sizes under my mattress, with nobody to share them with, not wanting to just dump them, and really not needing them. What's the point?

the $30 is the sitting fee and the pictures im giving is an extra. its one 8-10 which most people keep a 5-7 which u can give to a parent 2 4-6 for grandparents or albums....the truth is what you decide to do with the pictures is ur choice but u have to understand that being that I'm only starting now I dont feel comfortable asking a sitting fee without giving some sort of package...and letting people choose dif. pictures for such a great pricee just gives more work..(being that the decision process is endless)....I dont really know how it works in the chain stores being that I never went but I do know that Im giving about 2 hrs for an app. so I think asking for $30 is really a great price

Chayitty, your price is great, but the choices should be more varied. How about YOU removing the pictures that are definite no-no's (the child blinked, looked away, stuck its finger up its nose, etc.) and present the parent with a choice of five to eight photos, with the option of taking, let's say, three!
I would love to come to you in a short while, but I wouldn't if your package doesn't change! I just don't NEED so many copies of the same photo. I want a variety of poses!

The person I used to go to for pictures works like this:
take about 200-300 pictures per session....after taking all the pictures u go through them and only use the good ones ..(fix some up...crop...add shtick) then show the parents about 30-60 pictures. make some copmosites and some collages....show some in black and white and some with just a splash of color...then the parent get to choose wat they want with my help..(if needed)...all the pictures gets shown on a slideshow that gets emailed to u if u need time to decide
this is they way I plan on working and after the summer I"yh there will probably be a sitting fee without pics and just pay per pic
right now u can also pay per pic (not included in th $30) and my price list is pretty cheap....I guess you can wait till my website is up and see some of my work and decide if you think I'm worth it

Chayitty, I think your pricing makes sense. You have to say, though, that included in the sitting fee is a set of those pictures. AND, then each additional picture is $x. Also, make sure to tell the people that the pics you get for the sitting fee is an introductory offer that will only last through the summer, and after that it will be a sitting fee PLUS the pics.
I still have this dream of opening a studio, but it will most likely not happen anytime soon. Firstly, I'm nowhere near good enough for that, although I would love to learn. Secondly, I think for the amount of money you make, you need a pretty big investment which is out of my reach for now. I know that in the grand scheme of things it might not be such a huge investment, but it takes too long to make the money back, ie I can't borrow from a relative and say I'll pay you back in 3 months.
Anyway, sorry for rambling and Hatzlacha Rabba to you. I'm sure you'll do great.

I personally think that a large portion of mishpacha's readership are going to feel much like mama bear about such a contest. I wouldn't send my child's picture into a public publication either. I would be very uncomfortable. and believe me, I've approached a number of times about modeling my kids.
