A good friend of mine got engaged last night and is making a tenoyim on Sunday. I cant decide what would be a nice gift to bring.
I worked with her for over 3 years and we are good friends ever since.
Any suggestions?

I always like to buy some simple kitchen items and package them nicely in a wastepaper basket wrapped in cellophane. there are simple things that people tend to forget to buy for their new home. salt shakers, kitchen timer, potato peelers, veggie scrubbers, etc. you can fit a lot of stuff into the basket, and it's fun to unwrap.

Her family has money, and I know that she will buy every single thing she needs. So I want to buy something nice.

You didn't give us a spending guideline, but for the $25 - $30 range we tend to buy something real cute for engagement gifts - a countdown clock!! It's a countdown to the wedding and by being set properly, it rings on the day of the chassanah. Until then, it counts down every single day...
In BP, 'You Name It' sells it.
In Wmsbg. 'Pen Station' sells it.

your right, I would spend up to $50.00 - $60.00 I guess.
Thanks for the idea though..
I was thinking more on the lines of like a crystal or silver. But since silver is so expensive I dont think it would make sense.
Is there anything particular that is a hot gift right now.. I didnt have simchas in a while, so im kinda out of it.

the new pearl and crystal napkin rings are very in,
you could probably buy like 4-6 for that price and some stores, like gift stores wrap it up really nicely with napkins etc..
also, oven to tableware that goes into a chrome holder is very nice.

Since she will need it next year, how about a crystal honey server for Rosh HaShanna? Can that be bought within your budget?

In addition to whatever I give for engagements, I also like to add Tefilas Chanah by feldheim. It's pretty and has very useful tefillahs for her wedding day, mikveh, children, etc. You can also have her name put on it as well.

Go somewhere that sells crystal and decide from there. On Ave M, there's a store there, but I can't for the life of me remember what it's called.

As nice as all of the crystal and silver things are, I find they don't get a lot of use. If she's at all practical I suggest:
1. beautiful tablecloth - they always get stained and it's good to have a lot of them
2. cookbooks - like Kosher Pallette, or any of the Susie Fishbein books

Crystal or Cobalt are appreciated depending on the girl. If she's the type to hostess and prepare, it's a great choice.
