are you sure they are fleas? ive never heard of fleas biting people.
anyway, heres a way to get rid of most of them- take one of those sticky boards that are supposed to trap bugs and other things, put a small amount of jelly/honey/something sweet, and they will all swarm to it and get stuck on the board. its gross when you have to dump it, but at least you'll be rid of them.

my mother once had fleas (tons of them, all around the house) and no matter what she tried, could not rid them. she finally found a bag of very old Esrogim collected after sukkos by my little brother and hidden on top of a closet!!

Many people will not react to fleas the way they do to mosquitos and such. There are some people (like me) who DO react...

They hate the cold... so perhaps if you hang your bedsheets, blankets, pillows outside for a few hours and open windows and such?

They are probably in the carpets. We ended up pulling up the carpets (we had pets)

On this site it says they dislike cider vinegar and garlic.

while I wouldn't want to clean my sheets/carpets with garlic cider vinegar would work.

Here's another site, but before using any chemical check for saftey with someone who knows a great deal more about this than I do (such as your pediatrician.)
