It might not be so shocking for some of you but for me, that eats it atleast 3 times a week and I am trying to loose weight the information my friend told me today was very shocking to me and therefore was wondering if anyone could shed some light to it
so she told me her nutrisionist told her that 1 roll of sushi is like eating 2 slices of bread( the rice ) is that true??? I usally eat 2 or even 3 rolls instead of supper and would not like to think that I am eating the equialant of 6 slices of bread....
Spoons ( where I buy my sushi) did tell me he is coming up with a whole weat rice sushi but till then , how bad is sushi when one is trying to loose weight, I do the salmon avocado cucumber roll..

This has got to be wrong. I looked it up on numerous websites and 1/2 cup of white rice is between 200-210 calories.

Avocado is has healthy fat in it (like fish) and is SO GOOD for you. I wouldn't shy away from it. 3 rolls might be a bit much if you are trying to lose weight, but in general sushi is quite healthy. You can get a good idea of what you are eating and how many calories your roll has here. Most rolls are about 6 pieces, but you can see that they are a good bet nutritionally and calorie wise.

My mom's trick to her slim figure is the "rice diet" The only carb you are allowed to eat is rice...rice cakes, rice milk, rice, and so under that umbrella is sushi.

I used to eat only rice as my carb and also lost quite a bit of weight (that was among other things)

Sounds to me like the info is for uncooked rice.

Yes, remember that they add sugar and vinegar to the sushi rice.
Also, avocado do contain good fat, but it's not good to eat a lot of them. According to my low fat diet, you can have 1/4 an avocado daily.
According to Calorie Count.com, there are 130 calories in Wegman's California Rolls. Another website said that California Rolls have about 25 calories per piece.

I thought you were referring to the shocking information that Sushi has no way to be checked for worms. It seems the Nori is infested unless it's coming from an artificial pool and not the actual sea.

I have lost over 60 pounds WITH eating rice and sushi and avocado... they are all super healthy BUT must be eaten in a moderate amount, just like pretty much everything else we eat!
and if you really want to stay away from high calorie food, throw away your oil, sugar anything with white flour

I doubt sushi per se is the culprit for weight loss or gain. we all know what weight loss - or gain - stems from.
there are no tricks or easy answers.

I've learned that it's never good to eat too much of anything, even if you only eat it once a day. I have been much more successful in weight loss when I've eaten a variety of healthy foods then when I would eat the same thing every day.

Sushi rolls DO have a lot of white rice which doesn't have a ton of nutritional value, and it doesn't always have a ton of protein in them which may make you feel hungry later on. I usually try to get an order of edamame (high protein soybeans) with a roll to make me feel more full. Since I'm on the SBD, I only get brown rice.
