I at my wits end
My baby is 5 months, has really bad reflux, and is highly sensitive to soy & dairy. Every formula in the US is with Soy oil. The only formula that doesn't have soy / dairy is neocate & it was a no go as he kept choking on it & also wasn't a huge fan of it (even when we flavored it). We tried elecare and targets hypoallergenic (kosher version of nutramigen) both of them didn't work. Hes currently on Similac pro-total comfort but is still having reflux attacks, spitting up like crazy, diaper rash that won't go away, and is constantly gassy & constipated.
The only time he was completely content was when he was on my milk which requires me to starve and is not an option cuz I had very low supply.

Any ideas? I'm at a total loss

Yeah back then I was giving him straight up bm and he told me to go off of soy and dairy. Besides that wasn't too helpful

In what position is the baby when he's having his bottle?
Talk to his pediatrician about starting him on solids.

Kedmla the Cholov Yisreal UK formula that you can find in Jewish stores does not have soy or corn in it.

I went through similar challenges with my now 11 mo old. He drinks neocate now because of the recall, was previously on EleCare. I add gelmix thickener to his bottles so he doesn’t cough on it, and I do half neocate infant and half neocate vanilla so he likes the flavor, otherwise he doesn’t like it. I suggest you try these or at least bring up with a doctor. I’ve been working with a GI.

All these doctors are of the opinion that babies don't have allergies and its the proteins that they are sensitive to. TheGI recommended we try elecare even though it has soy oil, he claims its stripped of the proteins. Well we tried elecare and he hada horrible reaction to it.

I had a baby who only gained weight on Alimentum but only did well on the liquid, not the powder. Maybe try liquid neocate. You will probably need to refinance your house though;)

Yeah I would mix the neocate infant with vanilla as well. Where do you get gelmix & how much do you use per 4oz?

Oh okay. Honestly he liked EleCare a lot more and is not drinking as much of the neocate so I know where you’re coming from! I get gelmix on Amazon. I do two scoops per 4 oz. You can start with that and adjust as needed there are instructions on the bottle.

Thanks
What bottle did you use? Did you have to use a special nipple or even with the gelmix your baby was able to get it out?

I've been there. I'm so sorry you're struggling so much. It's not simple. Do you have support for yourself?

Here are some things that were helpful for us.

Dr. Brown's Specialty Feeding System with a preemie nipple. This is not the regular Dr. Brown's bottle. As far as I know, this can only be bought on Amazon. It allows baby better control of the flow through compression, rather than suck.

Do you have access to youtube? If not, I can try to explain to you. If yes, look up paced bottle feeding. It's much easier for babies to deal with their intake when their fed this way, gives them control over the feeding.

We took my baby to 6 allergists and 5 GIs. Don't be like me. Save yourself the trouble and just go straight to a kinesiologist. I don't believe in these things I was always very medical minded, as you can see by the amount of doctors we cycled through. Until I saw that doctors couldn't help my child and I broadened my horizons. I don't regret it a bit, just wish I had been open to it earlier on.

Here's what I WISH someone would have told me.

Get your baby checked for tongue tie by someone competent who specializes in this. If you're in NY, see Dr. Scott Siegel or Dr. Larry Kotlow. My dc is not a baby anymore and I know now definitely is tongue tied. I'm waiting until dc is old enough to agree to do it, but I for sure plan to laser it. This causes so so many issues. I can't recommend it enough.

I wish you lots of luck.

Can your baby have A2 dairy protein? As in goats milk? Holle formula is soy and corn free.
I also second seeing a kinesiologist and working with a feeding therapist if there are other oral motor/feeding issues as well.
Sometimes the medical establishment just doesn't have what to offer...

I hear you. Yes gonna look into taking him to get his lip tie & tounge tie taken care of.

[quote="amother [ Tealblue ]"] yes we use those specific Dr Browns bottles and have been using them since the beginning.
