Exotic fruits what have you tried

I live in South Africa.

It’s litchi (that’s how they spell them here) season and they are just delicious. We just bought a huge box for about $5. Also love grandillas. (Passion fruit) They can be tart or much sweeter. Depends on I actually don’t even know.

These are super common fruit, sold on the side of the road.

We also have gooseberries and kumquats.

Trying to think what other fruit is common here that is exotic in other places.

Going to the fruit store. Will have a look.

I live in Europe and we have delicious lychees now in season.
About the orange fruit that is similar to passion fruit I have no idea how it's actually called but I will try to check in the store if they already brought it in and will see the name..
And yes you really made me in the mood for exotic fruit!

I am dying to try the pawpaw. It is native to Ohio, where I live, but it does not store or travel well. So it is hard to get a hold of. Supposedly the taste is sweet.

Arter reading all this I have to say I wish there was a store that would specialize in selling just exotic fruit I wonder though on the other hand if they would really make any money.

Those are Cape gooseberries. They are not real gooseberries and related to tomatillos.
There are also European gooseberries. While not very known in US, they are very popular in Europe, as are red, white and black currants. I grew up on them and on sour cherries.
I actually have gooseberries, red and black currants growing in my yard.

The modern formulas how have grapes as grapes instead of gooseberries.

I would imagine that people living in Europe and of course people living in the Southern Hemisphere have different seasonal fruits. That is why people are getting lychees now in season whereas in the US lychees are available in June/end of May which is about six months later and would be the equivalent season.

These are the fruits I tried
Mamey - didn’t care for it
Feijoa - amazing
Monstera fruit - very pleasant
Passion fruit - yum
Mangosteen - family favorite, very hard to find
Tamarind
Tamarillo
Horned melon - nothing to write home about. The Brocha is haadoma.
Pepino melon
Dragon fruits - yellow one is much better than pink
Lychee, rambutan, longan - all good
Sabra
Persimmons of different kind
Kumquat
Gooseberries - cape and real
Red, white, black currants - love all of them
Sour cherries - while I wouldn’t call them exotic, they are mostly unknown in US and quite expensive. One of my favourites.
Durian
Jack fruit
Finger limes
Star fruit directly from a tree - really good. Nothing like they sell in stores that taste like grass to me.

Some fruits I only tried in a jam, like cornelian cherries.

I’m sure I’m forgetting something.

Tamarind- was made into juice, peeling the fruit and soaking the pulp in water - then straining

Guava
Guanábano also known as Soursop
Mamey
Mamoncillo -a type of lychee
Cherimoya
We always had the frozen pulp in the house
Either we bought it or when in season freeze ourselves
These were made into smoothies

BTW- they say guanábano is 20,000x more effective then Chemotherapy
When my husband was going through chemo I gave him guanábano mixed with coconut water smoothies everyday
I also gave him tea made from the leaves of the guanábano tree
