Would like to know what’s happening out there.
A child tested positive for COVID in my class today after school and the class is not being shut down . I was surprised but I was told that ‘all the schools’ are trending this way . Is that true? For me it’s not a question of if I or anyone thinks it’s wrong or right - I just really want to know if that’s what’s happening. My kids are not elementary or HS age so I’m out of that loop. Thanks

Haven’t heard of any reason to shut down these days - kid quarantines that’s it

In my school if there a few positive cases within 1 class, just that class goes virtual and teacher/students come back after receiving negative pcr test. It's happened to a couple of classes this year so far.

Same. One or two students in the class wouldn't cause a closure.

One class got shut down, the other class (in another school) did not get shut down but had half the girls absent. Lots of staff out, too. The second school has lots of flu. I’m wondering if we’re approaching this all backwards and should shut down for the flu before Covid, even though plenty stayed home it still seems to be spreading Sad really don’t want to get sick now.

There's been at least 12 staff members that I know of in my school that tested positive. I have 8 kids absent today. We're not on Zoom yet but won't be surprised if it happens.

Last year if one student has covid then the class would have to quarentine. This year if a student has covid we don't quarentine, just the kid does. As of today it's only 5 days and testing and wearing their kn95 mask. If it gets to the point where multiple kids are getting so it's obviously spreading in the class, then we'd go on zoom. My class never got to that point yet and G-D willing we won't. I'm wondering though if school is going to close because so many teachers are out due to covid or flu or their kids who have covid.

Yeah I think that's the most likely scenario that would cause schools to go virtual--if they get to the point where they are just too short staffed.

At this point even the NYC public schools plan to no longer shut down classes over positive cases. Things have changed.

My boys elementary school has just the positive ones quarantine. Everyone else in the family can go if symptom free.

My boys Yeshiva HS had so many positive cases due to a shabbaton so all not feeling well tested. Anyone positive quarantines. Everyone else is in school.

I expect there will be class or schools going remote in my area due to reduced staffing after the new year. I think the number of staff out because they themselves or their own kids are sick or in quarantine will be the bigger driver

Things changed and they are no longer shutting down classes because one child is positive. That child needs to quarantine but the other students don't if they don't have symptoms.

Dh and I both work in schools and have kids in 3 different schools. No masks no quarantine if a kid or teacher tests positive. It’s business as usual and I’m very happy about that. Yes ppl are testing positive for COVID but doesn’t scare me in the slightest. Most adults I know are vaccinated and I don’t even remember the last time I heard someone was hospitalized with COVID. It’s here to stay. Bh these newer strains are more mild. We have to just learn to live with it and stop shutting things down.

Yep. My kids school has had a few classes closed at different times. One included my kid's class. I think if there is more than 1 case they shut down for a few days to see if anyone else shows symptoms. If it is getting passed along in class they should shut down for a few days.
Covid positive kids and their siblings stay home.

It is crazy by me. It's either covid, flu, or stomach bug. Approx 1/3 of the students in the school are out sick and multiple staff members.

Last time a kid tested positive, they shut down the class, and enough classes ended up shut they decided to shut the school to cut the spread.

They just sent out at email though that they've accepted we're all gonna get omicron so they're no longer requiring quarantine for anyone vaccinated that's exposed, so they'll probably only shut preschool classes since some of each older class is vaccinated now.

What about family members (siblings, children) of those with Covid - do they have to quarantine or can attend school?

Our school used to say no, but allows it now if the kid is vaccinated...
