Lots of people conduct their business mostly on WhatsApp. And they're losing out a lot with the outage. I don't have WhatsApp so it's not affecting me personally, but I do know businesses that are personally being affected.

Maybe it’s a dry run of hacker software - pretty successful though if so
Lots of money in these social media platforms
So if these are shut down then the question as always is “who benefits?”

That's not possible. Large companies have too many security redundancies to prevent exactly this.
