The way I look at it if you will drink then it is ok for your son.

proudmom, when my baby was newborn the doctor told me to give him bottled water/ boiled water for his bottles of furmula and for drinking. now he is finished with formula but for drinking I have just continued giving him bottled water.

it is more expensive, but I dont know why but I think it tastes better the tap water.

personally I think bottled water taste better. I dont like tap water. IT is healthier to give a baby bottled water becasue it is healthier becasue the tap has a lot of garbage in it. but if you feel its too expensive get a water filter.

Its actually healthier to use tap water from the start, even for a newborn. First of all, just bec. water is in a bottle doesn't mean it is filtered and clean. Also, babies need flouride as their teeth are developing and bottled water has very variable amounts--anywhere from almost none to 4-5 times the recommended dose. tap water in most major cities is flouridated and regulated and filtered well enough for a baby.

often bottled water comes from a tap in a different state.

If you're really worried - buy yourself a filet - this will save you some $ too and boil it.

there is garbage in all water. tap water is at least filtered and treated. Bottled water could be coming from some filthy spring somewhere, there is very little regulation.

the water in montreal I heard is very clean so I drink from the tap all the time.
its funny b/c when I was in sem here I refused to drink from the tap b/c I had never done it before (at home we have a filter)and I thought it was dirty. I used to fill up bottles of water at the water fountain downstairs to drink all day.
and now I drink only from the tap! its ironic, no?

I never tell my patients to boil water for their babies. I live in the US and the water is clean. Maybe in some less developed countries its necessary, but not here.

less dveloped countries? I was told to use cooled boiled water and that included tap water because it gets rid of any germs babies can't deal with.
I prefer bottled water but only certain ones, maybe the ones I don't like are really tap water re-bottled.
Also I don't like the tap water where I live.
Someone mentioned flouride in the water. Not every water company puts flouride in the water, where I was from there was flouride, and the water tasted great from the tap, where I live now there is no flouride in it and I think the water tastes vile. What this means is that I was advised to use adult toothpaste when brushing my childs teeth.
But really I would say unless you know that the water isn't clean then why not use it? I use the water I got a filter jug.
Oh and Yael I also used the drinking fountain but that was coz the water in sem was brown and weird and we didn't know where the water came from.
