How do I make Lasagna?
Do I cook the noodles before? Or do I leave them raw & bake the lasagna with water? I've been hearing conflicting things.

Anyone have an easy recipe not using the lasagna that comes pre-cooked ?
Preferably with American cheese since I have that in the house & I'm not sure which other types of cheese are available here in Israel.

Actually, I also have shredded mozarella in the house. So I'll take a recipe with that too.

I usually cook the noodles first. Even if it says not to, because they come out hard still.

actually I judt bought recently in a greenbox from the kollel store in boro park, non cook lasagna.

I lay out the raw noodles with layers of pasta sauce and cottage cheese, shredded cheese and yes, american cheese! once it's al laid out, I pouir some water into the pan, by the edges and I cover tight. you would never guess that I did not cook the noodles before. taste the same and cuts the prep time in half

You can use ANY lasagna noodles without precooking them.

Here's the way I make it, and it's super easy and fast. and tastes great too!

9X13 disposable pan.
pour a little tomato (or marinara) sauce to lightly coat bottom of pan.
lay down 3 lasagna pieces.
pour more sauce over raw lasagna pieces.
(can put sliced vegetables ontop of sauce: zucchini, carrots, whatever!)
sprinkle chees across the entire layer.

Now you're ready to begin again.
lay another 3 pieces of lasagna.
sauce
cheese

(do one more set, assuming your pan is not too full already.)

3 pieces of lasagna
sauce
cheese (plenty, as this is the top layer!)

pour water around the edges of pan, filling pan about 40% with water. (little less than half full.)

cover tightly.
bake for at least an hour.
check and see if it needs another 30 minutes or not.
350 degrees.

It's easy and very fast.
I personally use marinara (ready made/pasta sauce) that way it gives additional flavor vs. using just tomato sauce.

I get it that must be my mistake those pre cooked supposedly noodles are horrible to work with even if I cook them too. now I see my problem I should cover the pan so this way it can steam it and cook it on the way too. thanks for the brilliant idea. 8)

I use pre cooked noodles and don't have a problem with them, I just rinse them off before I use them.

do you think I can use farmer cheese instead of cottage cheese? I have a bunch of extra farmer cheese from blintzes and I'm trying to figure out a way to use it up...

(I also have a bunch of extra blintz filling - any interesting ideas?)

I think you can use it... maybe use half that and half cottage cheese. a good thing to use farmer cheese for is stuffed shells. you stuff them with farmers cheese, hard cheese and eggs mixed together. then pour sauce over the whole thing. its yummy.

9x13 '' pan pour water on bottom of pan just abit then add pre baked noodles and cover completly with sauce (italian) then add a double chesse pg. (cheddar/ mozzerela) to each later of noodles.

if you want to go fancier add dieces tomatoes and cottage.

and a step further mushrooms, green pepper and oninons.
