Anyone think the resemblance of Warburg to Warbucks is intentional?
Once again, the writers are not american or english speakers. I dont think its connected as its not a sur thing that they even saw "annie".
But when I searched the name warburg this came up: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Warburg_family

They were flashbacks to the earlier pregnancy. Now it makes sense that Shulem told her, "this year you will have a living baby." And that's how the doctor and her parents know what a danger it is for her to get pregnant.

I didnt realize there were flashbacks to the previous pregnancy and now I'm so confused. When shes lying on the couch crying and he says I'm with you on this, when is that happening? When he goes to speak to Gitti and lipa, when is that and what was he going to discuss? When he sees her 5 months pregnant, is that the second pregnancy ?
Also Hebrew speakers, what happened to zimmerman?

The flashbacks and dreams are always a little grayed out and hazy.
In the present: Chanina goes into the restaurant to discuss the situation with his in -laws. He doesn't know what to do about Ruchami's stubbornness. He needs their help in dealing with this life and death issue, and getting Ruchami to agree to terminate the pregnancy. Before he gets a chance to talk to them, Lipa tells Chanina about Zimmerman having lost his ability to learn. That's when Chanina has the flashback to the earlier pregnancy.
So when you see her in the hospital bed and professor Mishnayot introduces himself, that was a flashback to her first pregnancy. We see the doctor telling her about the danger she is in and how Rav Soloveitchik rules that the pregnancy must be terminated. She loses the baby and then we see the scene with Ruchami and Chanina in the cemetery.

Then we are brought back to the present when Lipa and Gitty come out and see that Chanina has disappeared.

Rav Zimmerman was a huge talmid Chochom who lived and breathed Torah. Learning was his whole life. It seems he was sick and people were davening for him. He survived but he is not able to learn anymore, and now he is a shell of the man he used to be. His whole existence seems to have been snuffed out.
Chanina realizes that Ruchami is a female version of Rav Zimmerman. Without a child, she sees no point in her life.
Between his insight on what happened to Rav Zimmerman, as well as the gemara he happened to learn in that hour on "one in a thousand" (which, by the way, was PURE GENIUS), he concludes that he will stand with Ruchami and not force her to terminate the pregnancy.
So he leaves the restaurant without even telling his in-laws what's going on.
With his newfound perspective, he lies down next to Ruchami and assures her that he supports her. The two of them will face the future together, scared but with hope, and believe in that one in a thousand chance.

I had this totally backward! I thought the hazy scenes were flash forwards, but I found myself confused when prof mishnayot introduced himself. I thought it was a continuity error. Thanks for explaining! Btw does anyone else think it’s an error that a Rosh Yeshiva is paskening such high level shailos. In EY I always felt these questions are taken straight to the gedolai hador. My husbands RY were tremendous gedolim but I would think it highly unusual for them to pasken Halacha. There are poskim and Roshei Yeshiva and some Roshei Yeshiva are poskim (Rav Shlomo Zalman sarsaparilla for example) but it’s not a given. Rav Eliashiv zatsal was not a RY, nor is Lihavlach Rav Chaim Kanievsky.

Yes. Totally unrealistic.

Did anyone else see today's promo? Shulem chasing after Nechama, Kive painting Racheli and seeing Libi in the background, Yossele confessing something to Shira Levinson. I'm getting so nervous that everything is going to fall apart! And it does say the second to last episode so yeah, next week is it.

Can you please send a link to the promo? Or what did you search for to find it?

I don't find it unrealistic to go to your rosh yeshiva. it can be hard to have access to a gadol esp when it's urgent

Haven’t read this thread - don’t want to read the spoilers.
I watched the first two episodes of Season 1.
Akiva being interested in a divorced older woman seems so far-fetched and unrealistic.
Wish I could unsee the images in the meat factory.
Don’t think I’ll ever be able to eat meat again.😔

I know I needed to re watch after I read on here that it was flashbacks. Only after watching it twice did I finally understand the story and why he is supporting her. Don't think they did a good job with that episode.

So I’m curious as to why you all seem convinced that the Ruchami sequences (with the hospital and cemetery) are flashbacks as opposed to dreams?

First of all the color was different AND when she sees Prof Mishnayot, he is introducing himself as if he has not met him yet.

Interesting. In other scenes that we know were dreams (such as in season 1 when with Elisheva and her two late husbands) do you remember that the color was different?

literally no recollection, I watched it over 5 years ago Smile
BUt that was beyond obvious.
To me, this was also so obvious. Again, also, professor mishnayot was introducing himself to them. That would mean it was before the present because they know him already now.

In addition to what Shabbatiscoming said, that episode actually sheds light on the whole sequence from the beginning. In the beginning we were full of questions... why does Ruchami ask Prof mishnayot to remove the IUD? Why does he say its extremely dangerous. Why does he go and contact Chanina? Why does Chanina eventually agree to surrogacy? How would they know she has this terrible risk of dying if she has not had a previous experience?
Everything now makes sense. We see she had a previous pregnancy that resulted in a terrible danger to her life. We see how she reacted to it..

And the thing that makes it clear beyond doubt is the fact that Mishnayot introduces himself to them in that flashback scene.

No they were not. But they weren't so much dreams as her imagination when she was awake. She imagined them sitting at the table.
When Kive dreamed of his mother in the restaurant with the eskimos, it was grey. When Ruchami had that dream where she shoots her father like in the wild west, it was gray. As far as I could tell, Dreams and true flashbacks are grayish.
But when people are awake and imagining things, there is no color change.
Every time Shulem imagines his wife sitting with him, she is a normal color.

Interesting. And I thought that episode was the best so far in the whole series. It answered many questions. And I loved the scene with Rachelli and Akiva talking to each other through the social worker.
