Can’t help but feel the producers really came out with their true colors and made chareidim look like dysfunctional twisted lying faith lacking nebachs R”L
Really messed up
I tried watching one of the links, got stuck while they're sitting in the Rabbanut. So I downloaded from one of the links (thank you!) but it gets stuck in the same place!
I was actually really happy when they made Nachum really depressed. Like, finally, let's address mental illness and how so many charedim don't really know how to handle it or what to do. Yelling at the man wasn't going to pull him out of his depression.
But I guess Twoo Love saves the day? Disappointed.
Racheli touched Akiva's arm a couple of times. There was not enough time for her to have done 7 nekiim & gone to mikvah. Unless for some reason she was already going ????
But they said clearly that the hearing was that same week and they got married in a day or two. Somebody messed up, I would say.
Just want to say. I got married in Israel, albeit many many years ago. The rabbis knew my future dh's family and just took my dh's word for it that I was single. They pulled some random witnesses off the street or the adjoining office (don't remember) to attest to that.
So things do happen.
In your case then they were not following the bureaucratic protocol because of a personal relationship.
Here though there was no sign at all that protektzia was being applied or that they were sidestepping protocol in any way.
The whole thing has become too much of a madcap adventure for me. The plot twists are so bizarre and melodramatic and the characters no longer seem to be as firmly planted within the haredi world which is what made the show so intriguing to 'outsiders'. I'm still going to watch b/c it is still quality acting and entertainment but I can't say I feel emotionally invested in any of the characters anymore. What was once sort of a tragicomedy has now become farce.

Yeah, I brought that up. I know the producers have a rule to not have mikvah as part of the storyline, but then this whole thing feels wrong. Also, if she clearly wasn't planning on having a "real" marriage with Akiva, why would she go?
Maybe she is planning and only he wasn't and that's why he went home? It was supposed to be as a keilu but she went the whole 9 yards with buying her dress!

I had that too with one of the uploaded versions but telegram has a few ones. Do you have that app?
QUOTE _ I think yes, racheli is pregnant and thats why she agreed to marry kivi. She was lying on the couch with her hand on belly when he knocked. Though I don't think she is the surrogate. She does not need that income. Unfortunately I think Ruchami will die. She is taking out her Iud and will try and get pregnant. That's why she lied to her mom about pillows.
I bet the mother will notice that She's pregnant for real - like her face will puff up, or maybe her chest. Morning sickness ... We'll see... Agreed, it's getting too scary and surrealistic as it goes on
On telegram now and some other links but don't know how secure they are.
First of all, need to go back to my comment someone questioned about Gitty being the worst dressed. That was from an interview with the actors, she was asked what she would change about her character and she said the way she's dressed but she tried and the writers/producers actually want her to dress in that way, I guess nebby.
I totally don't get how the Racheli thing worked out but I'll wait to question till more people see it.
And what is Ruchami thinking? That she can hide this from her husband?
She can't hide this from him for too long because if she gets pregnant then her life is in danger. They will need to take action.
My guess is that she isn't thinking too far in advance. She wants to get pregnant and then she will tell her husband when it's too late to do anything, and the chips will fall where they will fall. Maybe she figured life isn't worth living if she can't have a baby. So she has nothing to lose by trying.
And told Chanina she didn't, and he's not gonna notice if she does get pregnant and not wear a pillow?! I'm so beyond confused. She wants to be open with him and have communication and she keeps on doing things behind his back.
I still can't get over the impossibility of the Racheli story line either. You can't get married in the rabbanut that way so quickly. And she couldn't have toiveled yet but she's touching Kive after the marriage. And she's a little creepy with the wedding dress and only getting married once line and what not, but so sane as a business woman in the meeting to get his daughter back.
It's also strange to me that Kive is back at his father and no mention of what Racheli did after getting Devorah'le back.
Also they mention a few times that Nochum lost his daughter within the year, nothing about his wife so I guess she died earlier.
Ok, so lack of communication is the big theme here. You see this with Giti and Lipa, they both want different things, and when they can't come to an agreement, they both resort to going behind each other's backs to do what they want.
Same with Ruchami and Chanina. Though with Chanina, I feel like he chose not to tell Ruchami about the doctor calling him because he is trying to preserve her dignity for concealing that she went to the doctor without his consent. And he also withheld from her that the surrogacy was b'dieved, also to preserve her dignity (and maybe her fragile emotional state).
Ruchami however kept going behind his back to do really sneaky things, things that should never have. Even done without her husband's agreement.
I think Chanina is acting like a true Ben Torah who is stuck between a rock and a hard place. However, it bothers me that there seems to be a bit of an inconsistency. On the one hand, he seems very sensitive to his wife's feelings (being ready to do a big bedieved for her sake). On the other hand, it's not ok that he sometimes doesn't come home for supper. In the first chapter, Ruchami tells her grandfather that she always cooks but Chanina usually doesn't come home till very late. He seems to take for granted that his wife is thrilled for him to learn until all hours of the night. But really Ruchami is lonely and sits at home waiting for him. And she doesn't even have a baby to be busy with. She feels like she has no life.
So could be Chanina is just a bit immature. He has his heart in the right place but he doesn't have the maturity to see the bigger picture, that in his situation, he needs to come home and spend time with his wife and that is the bigger mitzvah here.
Ruchami and Chanina could both benefit from counseling.

I feel like the touching thing must be a mistake. Maybe the producers didn't realize or maybe they thought most viewers would be ok with it. (As an aside, in the first two seasons you saw almost no negiah at all. Even between married people. Here we have seen quite a bit already. You see Akiva and Libby a few times touching, and you see ruchami hugging her husband, twice. And I saw a preview where Chanina goes into Ruchami's bed. Just a head's up for those who are makpid.)
I was also a little creeped out by Rachelli showing up in her wedding finery. It's clear that she really wishes Akiva would marry her so she went all out. She seems to have a very hard side to her, and at the same time a very good heart.
Also the first time he comes, she refuses to write him a letter, though it would not have been such a lie to say he works for her. He has been providing her with paintings. Marrying him for the sake of getting the child back is a much bigger lie. And if it were ever to come to light that she did that, she could get into a lot of trouble.
I would have loved to see the scene of the two of them walking out of the building together with the baby, and then awkwardly parting ways...
I think the two of them will end up together. This storyline reminds me of a famous story.
There was a poritz who saw a beautiful Jewish girl and wanted to marry her. The family knew that to refuse would spell death but they didn't know what to do. There was a poor older man who offered to marry her just so the poritz would leave her alone. The family agreed as it was the only way out. When the poritz arrived to take the girl, he saw she was already married, so he left her alone. After the wedding the man offered the girl a get but she refused saying that she wants to stay married to him. They ended up having many descendants who were big tzadikim.
I think it was amazing how Nechami was humming a tune while waiting for Shulem and then Nuchem heard it and it sortof woke him up. I hope there will be a romance there, abut of course Shulem will make trouble.
The whole story with Akiva and Racheli was insane. What charedi woman does that? I dont think she is pregnant. As you saw, Akiva went back to his father's home, so he is not really living with Racheli as a married couple.
And with regards to Ruchami, that is just very very sad. Nothing good will com from that story
I seem to remember that there was mention of Nuchem being a lover of classical music in season 2, was there not?
I would have loved to see Shulem's look of bewilderment when he wakes up to realize he has missed his date and that, no less, his brother usurped his date! Nuchem always manages to mess things up for Shulem.
Don't forget that Shulem was playing a game with Necahma. He learned from the story with the cheider that you need to play hard to get. So he pretended not to be interested in Nechama, waiting all along for her to turn around and go after him! And it worked. Now she finally came after him and he messed it up.
I couldn't follow the whole conversation with Avigail. When Ruchami called her, did Avigail say she could cancel and there will be no baby? Is there a possibilty that the pregnancy took and the surrogate is actually pregnant with their child?
I think this season isn't as good as the first two. It's not as funny and the scenes are either repetitive or unrealistic.
I'm enjoying it:) maybe because I have come to love the characters and enjoy seeing each of them be so true to themselves. They each have their own quirks and manner of speech that has become endearing.
For example Shulem is always busy with "behechlet" and "vechulei". Menucha with her "give me just half a plate"..
why do you guys wonder that Racheli has got a wedding dress? 1. money is obviously not a problem 2. wouldn‘t it be very strange if a bride is going to marry not in a wedding dress?

what would be the reason to go to the mikva already?

This is a wild guess, but if she is the surrogate she might have gone?
Anyhow someone upthread mentioned that there didn't seem to be protekzia. I think her telling the social workers that she manages the Warburg fund was enough that they took her word for it that Akiva has no alcohol problem. (I didn't follow every word there but I think that's what she sai And maybe the Rov at the Rabbanut also heard of the Warburg fund?) Because it doesn't make much sense otherwise.
But here's what I'm wondering. Any Child Protection Services cases that I've ever read about, there was follow-up for a while til they were convinced everything was fine. I don't know if that's the case in Israel but if so - what happens when they come to check? Fine, the zaidie can have a crib there for einikel's visits, but what if they realize there's nothing to show Devora'leh lives with Racheli? Also funny because she says they were busy looking for an apartment but won't they realize she's been living in the same very nice apartment?

It's just weird to come with a whole wedding dress when they obviously were doing a small, quick, no frills wedding.
A nice suit would have been sufficient. I'm sure Akiva wasn't expecting her to go all out.
About the mikva, if the whole wedding was a sham, she would not need mikva, but then she also couldn't touch Akiva.
On the subject of the quick wedding...its weird that the Rabbanut would not suspect something is weird. No one just shows up at the wedding with no witnesses. Especially regular yerushalmim. Meaning, if they were immigrants, it would make some sense...
Also, the revacha people seem very gullible.

„as we didn‘t find an appartement wendecided to stay in this one“ 😉
the revacha said they never heard of Warburg
