Does anyone know of a good French onion soup recipe? Please be specific as to how to make it. I have made it in the past and it needs to be made rite.

the purple cookbook has a great and easy recipe:
melt 4 tbs margarine and 2 tbs oil in a pot.
add in 7 cups of onins, diced up. add I tsp of salt and 1 tswp of basil and 1 tsp of thyme .
mis and stir occasionally for 20-30 moinutes over medium flame, uncovered
when onoins soften, add 3 tbs flour and miw well then slowly add 8 cups of water , cover and let simmer for another 40 minutes.
when you serve it, add some shredded mozarella cheese, but be sure that the soup is boiling hot so the cheese melts well, youcanserve with croutons too.
please dont mind my mistakes... it is a fast day..

I just made that soup - added some mushrooms too. It is delicious!!

I've been to fancy restaurants where they serve you onion soup in bread bowls!!!
(thick crusted bread in shape of bowls, with the soft part of bread removed to make room for soup........)

or you can make them by turning over an oven-proof bowl (like a stainless steel mixing bowl) spraying it with pam, and covering it w/ bread dough- then bake! you'll end up w/ bread in the shape of a bowl.
