No, I think it was obvious because in the beginning of the episode she tells him that they need mney to eat and pay rent and he should sell him painting and he tells he no way. But then at the end, all of te pictures are of her, libi, so its in memory, in tribute, to her, after she has died.

So that is what I thought too but it doesn't make sense because of the age of the baby. She's the same age in the opening scene where Libi talks wistfully about breastfeeding her just one more time and at the end, at the art show, when we are told she's been dead for 8 months.
She obviously must have died in childbirth or soon thereafter. The baby looks to be younger than a year, I think.

On a side note - that melody to אוחילה . I'm wondering if it is really used in the Yerushalmi community with which the Shtisels are affiliated. It's a very modern (in the sense of recent) tune. You would think they use something more time-honored. Anyone know?

I was also wondering that.

I was also wondering about the dinner for the cheder. Do those things actually happen? I have never heard of school dinners in Israel. I was scratching my head through that one.

I wondered same. Some of the bigger yeshivas like Mir and Ponevez that have students from abroad have dinners in the US, some Chassidim have fundraisers in the US too. Do any Israeli imas know of yeshiva dinners in Jerusalem? I wasn't scratching my head because it fit in so well with the plot that I thought I'd allow some poetic license.

They used the word 'dinner' as though it were something imported from America.

So sad that Libi died. And Yissachar. So much tragedy in such a short episode!

Maybe he will now marry Elisheva?

Who is the lady that was engaged to Yissachar? She looked so familiar.

I didn’t read all the posts but just wanted to mention that of the two producers one is religious and one isn’t but went to ponovezh... they got lots of nuances right because they know their stuff. Also the Shtisels are a very particular kind of yerushalmi- in yerushalayim since the 1800s and have their own minhagim and dressing and stuff...

Answer me this: Are they considered chassidish? I mean, streimel and payos and everything, but they don't seem to be associated with Rebbe (and the sheitels...)

More than that, he makes a comment to the effect of this is all there is, hunting to the fact that only the art is what remains of her. But before you realize it, you think he's just being passionate about his art.

I was wondering myself but he had a painting of her and the baby. Unless he dreamed that too.
Also, the baby is named for his mother, not his wife, so I assume she was still alive then.

It’s typical yerushalmi if I’m not mistaken

I believe one of the previews mentioned that the baby is 18 months old, which means that she was 10 months old when Libby passed away Sad
Also, one of Akiva's paintings is of Libby holding the baby, so I don't think she died in childbirth.

And a stroller picture...
I think there was a teaser that mentioned the baby's age as being older, so I guess Libi did not pass away until later.
