There are flashbacks when he's at the art show where he recalls the scenes we see and she's not really there.
And there's foreshadowing in the wedding scene where she says life is short and he says it's never ending.

Not a few years. Kaufman says, at the art exhibit, that the artist, akiva shtisel, is widowed 8 months, so the car ride with him was just to show that libi really did get him and was always with him when he had an exhibit. Thats what I thought anyway.
