I'm still not clear about the mask, though. The attendant was passing checking masks a few times and didn't tell anything to your daughter until she was davening from a book. Was her mask not covering her nose all that time and the attendant chose to talk to her only once she was davening?
Do planes now have empty seats on either side of each passenger or she had neighbors who saw her wearing a mask? |
The flight attendant didn't say anything until the siddur came out. My daughter was in an aisle seat with no one else on her side of the row.

Small world!
Sounds like your daughter handled herself with aplomb.

This sounds scary.

The best way to help is probably to spread the story as much and as far as possible.

I believe it. I had the most atrocious experience on Delta (under Air France).
I won't go into the whole story because I don't want to derail the thread, but DD and I nearly got kicked off of the airplane because we wouldn't change our (prepaid, assigned seats) with a family who hadn't bothered to pay extra to book adjoining seats. The family was French, we were not.

Ugh I’ve had some pretty unfortunate experiences with Delta but nothing like this. Fox Kol Hakvod for raising a daughter who behaves with class in which I’m sure was a very stressful situation. Hatzlacha to you both, hope it gets sorted out.

On the plus side, she was wearing a fabulous handbag. There's no excuse for getting thrown off a plane with a tacky handbag! |
This is a crucial part of the story! Why wasn't it mentioned in the article?

I just posted an angry message on Delta's Facebook page, and I saw that a few other people did also. Companies get nervous when you do that. I hope any Jews who are still flying will boycott Delta.

Fox - how calm she was! Great Chinuch!!! If we all stop flying Delta and spread it around he Frum world, I'm sure they'll lose money.... Or are we just a tiny percent of their income?

I usually fly with my national airline to the USA but one time delta was cheaper. Not only did I have to pay to change my flight when my kid got chickenpox 3 days before (really, you want my kid infecting your whole flight?) they were just really unpleasant to deal with.
Never again!
Absolutely horrified to hear of this experience but unfortunately not surprised after so many similar stories in the past few years.
I think the race of this attendant is irrelevant in the story. No need even to mention it. It could easily have been a white anti semite - they come in all colours!

The airlines need to specify what types of face coverings they do or do not allow and have approved masks available for purchase on board and at airport kiosks.
While Jews should be able to pray on the plane, the next time that I fly, I will bring a little tefillas haderech card that won't attract as much attention as a prayer book.

Just want to chime in to say I’m impressed that your daughter remained so calm despite what she was put through.

My DH flys weekly for work (mainly delta 🤬). They do give out masks when he goes through security and on his flight every time. But they are nothing special. Just plain cotton white masks.
I can’t imagine anything would be wrong with a blue disposable mask. This is a horrible story. And knowing the connection makes it so much personal.

Follow-up: Of course Delta hasn't responded to the angry message I posted on their Facebook page - but 3 other anti-Semites crawled out of the woodwork and posted a "haha" reaction to my post. Very discouraging and scary.

It's probably better to wear the one that they give you, even if the disposable one is better.
I also think that Jews who fly Delta should leave negative reviews to get their attention on this.
Although I am proud of my religion, an airplane may be the wrong place to show it. Some prayers can be loaded on to a phone so that it is accessible in airplane mode.

I’m invested in this story now

It doesn't seem to be a problem of the type of a mask, but that the mask fell/wasn't covering the nose?
Is that right, Fox?
