I google recipes. |
I mostly do too, but for frum audiences there is still a place for cookbooks for use on yom tov or even on shabbos for salads.
I like the kosher by design kids in the kitchen for beginners. 🙈

I would definitely say Table for Two as absolute first choice!
Purple Spice and Spirit if you want a second choice.

If she's not a beginner- I find The Silver Platter (both of them) to be good. Not too typical but not too complicated or exotic either. Probably the cookbook I repeat recipes the most often.

Ok back to the purple cookbook which by the way is the same as spice and spirit.
The good part is it’s not just for when you are a newlywed. It’s a classic with every basic so it can really teach you how to cook. Then there’s a lot of more interesting things that you can be creative with. They really cover everything and she can use it throughout her marriage.
I have a ton of cookbooks, but yea I also mainly google things now.
Even with that I go back to the purple book first if I need something. Just used it today.

I would not recommend Susie Fishbein, Peas, Love, and Carrots, or the Bais Yaakov cookbook.
I would recommend Spice and Spirit, the Nitra Simcha cookbook, Table for Two, Dining In, Fresh and Easy, and What's Cooking. My absolute favorite are Miriam Pascal's cookbooks, Real Life Kosher Cooking and More Real Life Kosher Cooking. I'm also really looking forward to Between Carpools' Dinner Done.

I never understood the recommendation for the Bais Yaakov cookbook. Do people make elaborate 4-course menus every night??

Bais Yaakov Cookbook has a wealth of delicous yummy easy to follow
If I would re print I would replace all margarine sticks (original rebetzins old old recipies, some are not here for 20+ years, so you can tell how old recipe is) with canola oil.
when gifting I would stick a print of my word document showing conversion of Margarine to canola oil with a note.
Heart friendly
;-)
Also between car pools- quick and good recipies. However Bais Yaakov has much much more, and will take years to experiment all.

The classic Spice and Spirit is still the classic.
I intend to make a small binder of maybe 20 family shabbos and yom tov recipes for my daughters when they marry. I assume that, like me, they may want the recipe for "Bubby's potato kugel" the stuffed fish we make only on Rosh Hashana, or specific cakes, cookies, or main dishes that remind them of yom tov at home.

Bais Yaakov cookbook is not my favorite at all. I actually do not use it much. I think Dinner Done is great.
