Why, if there 2 persons with blue eyes, does not everybody jump on the plane the second day?

Because they all see 2 blue eyed ones and 97 brown so there’s no way they know for sure they’re blue. Only blue #2 will know because he sees 98 brown, 1 blue but this one blue didn’t leave the day before.

The only thing I gained from the link is that I’m asking exactly what he’s asking. His questions 2&3 are Word for word my questions too. I need an answer to those. the explanation he gives wasn’t different than your first one. In fact I gave that answer in the first place when you wanted us to assume there are only 2 blue eyed. I need answers to #2&3 but I’m exhausted from that one already. On to your 21 one.

But you keep on saying that you understand the break-down.
Do you understand that if there are 5 blue-eyed people, they will all leave on day 5?

Let me think a second if I agreed with you past 3 blue eyed because my brain is a chocolate chip mush. 4 & 40 blue eyed shouldn’t be different anymore.
ETA honestly can’t concentrate on this one anymore. Gotta put it aside. Hope I’ll get an aha moment before Moshiach comes.

Exactly... 98 see two blue... so they don't expect them to leave before tomorrow...

Of the 98, no-on expects to see blue-eyed guys leave on day 1... they all expect them to leave on day 2...

Just blue-eyed guys themselves see 1 blue-eyed guy, sothey expect him to leave on day 1...

Since he does not leave on day 1, there must be an extra blue-eyed guy I did not see - oh, that's me...

If there were 5 blue-eyed guys, 95 guys would expect them to leave on day 5 (or 6), 5 guys would see 4 guys with blue eyes and would expect them to leave on day 4... but they don't... so there must be one extra blue-eyed guy I did not see - oh, it's me...

That's why 40 blue-eyed guys would nap till day 39... Just like the 98 brown-eyed ones nap till day 2 and do not go on the plane...

Ok I think I’m getting it slowlyyyyyyyyyyy.
The point is that on day 40 alllllllllll 40 of them blue-eyed-bessera-big-shots suddenly chapped at once that they are the 40th. Not that #1 chapped on day 1 and #2 on day 2.... okay okay okay okay I think the puzzle settled neatly in my mind. I think. Let me just have another cookie to be 100% sure.

Let me answer my own question which I asked about 50 times.
It’s takes at least 1 day of a missed flight to know for sure that there are at least 2 blue eyed. At least 2 missed flights to know for sure there are at least 3 blue eyed. Etc. etc etc. so we must have 39 missed flights to know that there are definitely at least 40 blue eyed. Once a blue eyed knows there are definitely 40, and he knows from day one that there are definitely 60 brown he then knows for sure he’s one of the 40. Couldn’t anyone explain it this way the first time I asked what changed between day 25 & 35?

YES!
They are not standing in a line labeled 1 thru 40....... Each individual sees 39 so each to their own figure that day 39 will tell them if they are part of the BLUE-EYED-CLUB or not.

Well, I understood it perfectly without your explanation......but I guess everyone's mind works differently....

Regarding this:

I was kidding. Had you been one of those 40 people, everyone else would've left on day 40 since they all saw 39 people, but since you hadn't had your aha moment yet, you would've stayed behind.

I said they all had the epiphany at the same time...
"So they have a collective epiphany on day 39 when no-one boarded the plane."

or as the Israelis would say: nafal lahem assimon...

Can you answer the deeper question now,
What did the announcement that at least one is blue-eyed tell them that they did not already know?

Really wanted to put this riddle to rest already. But, being that they knew there are at least 39 from the first minute couldn’t they figure out a way to skip flight 1-39? Think of all the gas wasted? Shouldn’t day 1 be day 39 since 39 were definite? Again that would only happen if there’s some discussion here. They don’t have to mention eye color in the discussion. Just say today is day 39.
Another question, who needed the pilot to say there’s at least one? That was extremely dumb. He should’ve instead said today is flight #39.

Perhaps this should clue them in how to go about figuring it out?

that's a good question.. I suppose it is irrelevant in this case, since they see from the beginning that there are 39 or 40 people with blue eyes around them...

I suppose this comes from an other permutation of the game...

No. Without that announcement, NOTHING WOULD'VE HAPPENED.

Yes they could skip day 1-39 if they communicated and it became generally known that some inhabitants see 40 guys with blue-eyes and some see 39... then immediatly all those who see only 39 would know they are one of the future exiles...

The riddle claims they do not discuss eye color. But they can discuss gas savings for plane tips...
