When we read the word זכיות, we do read it zechiyois.
How did סלטים come about from salads?

ChanieMommy wrote: | Ah, so in yiddish those words have a different grammar than in lashon hakodesh.
In lashon hakodesh it is
Shtut (or you would say: stis) - stuyot (stiyes?)
Shabat (shabbos) - shabbatot (shabbosses?)
Torah - Torot (tojres)
Zechut (zchis) - Zechuyot (zchiyes)
Bsura (bsire?) -bsurot (bsires?)
Chuppa (chippe?) -chuppot (chippes?) |
Last 4 we do say like that

Language is funny the way it evolves. How about Yinglish were new words formed in yiddish language that combines bits of English & Yiddish combined thus forming new words that are neither English, nor Yiddish but are commonly used in speech.

But why "bsires", but "zechiyois"? it's the same -ot... (or -oss)
About salatim:
Salat ends in tet,not in tav...

Ye but in English plural is "s" and word is deriven from English like many Hebrew words stem from English and adapted into Hebrew language with Hebrew rules & grammar

the rimon was still a bit pink, but not sour.
Do you think the color of the grains in the rimon depends on how ripe it is or on some other factor like genetics? |
Ripeness

Ah, so in english it would be salads...
I suppose salatim is Ivrit...
But they adapt the plural to the plural in ivrit, because they incorporate the word into the language...
Like the verb "lehashvitz" -they take the verb and treat it as if it was a hebrew verb...

ChanieMommy you seem like you are well integrated into both worlds & are fluent in both languages with all different dialects. Bravo to you?
May I ask, how you came about your expertise?

I don't think there is a word "zechiye" in lashon hakodesh...
There is the word zechut, and it's plural is zechuyot (zechiyos)
There are a few female words ending in ת, mainly abstract words formed from verbs, ending in -ut (-us? -is?) like malchut (malchuyot), kenut (honesty), yeshut (essence), etc...

We have new words in Yiddish
Walk+גיין= voken
Color+ פארבען=koloren
Painten
They add the n to end of any English Verb to make it into a Yiddish verb

Yes, it's the same principle as "lehashvitz" - you take the verb and conjugate it according to yiddish rules - walk - walken...

We do say in Yiddish, I had the "zechiye" to meet you ( the honor, the merit)
Zchus is also merit like mitzvos
