my 8 yr old daughter sucks her thumb and we've been trying to get her to stop...
today she put on nail polish so I told her she CANNOT suck her thumb, because it's like "poison."
I decided to put bandages on her thumbs to prevent her from doing it (tried bandaids once and she peeled them off).
I couldn't find bandages so I wrapped bedika cloths on her thumbs and taped them on!! when she saw them she said, "oh, those are the frum bandages."

Be prepared for the orthodontist.....every one of my kids needed it....I think only one of my kids didn't suck their thumb.

OP here.
I think she knew it b/c she's been in my bathroom before and maybe she saw the package out...?

OP again...just to tell you, she's not sucking her thumb tonight, probably for the first time EVER...(I used a lot of scotch tape )
I wouldn't be so concerned about the thumb-sucking, but she does it in school and her teachers don't like it. also, she's gotten pinworms a couple of times and I know it doesn't help that her thumbs are always going into her mouth...

dd was a thumbsucker and yes, went through pinworms and yes, orthodontia ...
but let me tell ya, it was worth it.
I was an exhausted new mother and I appreciated her being able to calm herself..
that said, she knits now,and chews gum.

re: orthodontist- my kid w/ the worst teeth never sucked his thumb.
my 9 yr old just got a "crib" - a retainer with loops coming down in the middle to stop her from sucking her thumb-so that she can get braces eventually.
