I had an acquaintance that I would occasionally check her fb posts. She passed away a couple of months ago. Today I got a new friend request from this persons account. Now I know her account is still active by her family, but my name on fb is totally anonymous- can ppl see who checks into their acct? Like how would they know to friend request me?

Sorry for your loss. Facebook might have recommended you to the profile owner as a friend suggestion. Not 100% sure of their algorithm but I'm pretty sure that if you both have Facebook app and one of you had the other's phone number in their phone, they'll suggest you. (Since we started working from home, more colleagues shared personal numbers, and boom, suddenly Facebook recommends them... But I wasn't surprised as I'd had that before.)
It is possible that Facebook recommends someone after they look at your profile, and I'd think highly likely. But they'd never admit that.
Or... Did you accidentally like something when looking at her profile?
If the fam added you, maybe they want you to be able to share in updates/memories about your friend.

They are very aggressive with recommendations. When I installed outlook for work on my phone any client with Facebook showed up on my app.
