What’s considered normal and hishtadlus? I have a family member who might fly to us, all within the U.S., but should we do it? She would be in the airports exposed etc and then around my young children...

FWIW, to date no kids have been infected.

If you need to fly, do it with precautions - plenty hand washing, hand gel, wipe down the seat/armrest/screens etc before touching.

yes I hear the issue
where is she coming from ?
why is she coming?
as far as the kids they seem to be less vulnerable and more possibly carriers
still no one would want to be quarantined, or exposed, etc

The worry is more being in the plane for a few hours with other people... sharing the same air and being in close proximity. She’s just coming for a visit and for a small simcha... I don’t think she’s going to come. Pediatrician was against it

The youngest child who tested positive was 36 hours old, and it is not clear whether she was infected in utero or after birth (to a mother who tested positive).

The second youngest was 17 days old. They were both in China.

Having said that, most children seem to get it fairly mildly, and are not normally seriously ill.

There is a mother who gave birth earlier in the isolation unit at Sheba, and she was separated from the baby immediately after birth, and will not be allowed to see or hold it for fourteen days. That must be impossibly hard, but no one wants to run the risk of infecting a newborn.

Thats great news Op! Good job talking to your pediatrician!
As for kids getting it mild...I find it reassuring but want to clarify would not rely on it particularly as new info is coming out about this new pandemic every day.

Tell me where you’ve seen anywhere kids being infected.
According to who (so I read this morning) less than 0.5% of cases are under 10. And even those that did get it received such a mild case. They assume that more children had it but too mild to report to a dr office.

Children can be infected with the virus, however, even in China, not one child has died from this virus BH and most only had very mild symptoms. Children who were tested can come out positive however mostly do not exhibit symptoms and again if do can be like a mild virus. This is what has been the case so far.

Actually the likelihood of catching anything on a plane is really low
Because of how air circulates and is filtered on airplanes, most viruses and other germs do not spread easily on airplanes
