Hi,

My daughter (oldest) is 8 and some of her friends in school have watched High School Musical. I personally, having not watched it, don't think it's appropriate for her (boy girl stuff) and am surprised many of her friends have watched it and sing the songs. Although she does watch rented movies occaisionally they are not Disney but more animated stuff like Bob the Builder, Dora... What do others think?

My six year old watched it and LOVED it. There is no kissing or anything if that worries you.

My son was shown it and school, and everybody liked it, but I haven't seen it.

My kids' friends have been talking about how great it is...moms on the playground gush about how sqeaky clean it is and all.

I guess I'm very old fashioned...why should my kids ( 10 and under ) get all wrapped up in high school stuff? I haven't seen it, but if I think it's okay, I'll let them watch in when they're older.

My kids have seen Mary Poppins, all the Magic School Buses, and other kid movies, so it's not like they haven't seen movies. But the whole boy/girl friction seems unnecessary to me at the young age of 8.

(Just my opinion.)

It is true that there is no kissing or s-xual stuff in the first one.

High School Musical 2, however centers around "will the main charachters ever get to kiss?"

My 7 year old loves them both. I do not like the second one for a child so young and had the first one not been so good, I would not have allowed her to see the second one without my previewing it first. Oh well, live and learn.

The music in the first one is fantastic and the plot centers around a boy and a girl who both want to do something different than is expected of them from their social roles in school. Eventually, everyone in the school starts doing their "own thing". It is a great message for our family (Modern Orthodox) but it is probably not a message that parents in a Chasidish or Yeshivish community want to send to their kids.

The music is really infectious, though. Music LOL

Probably not.

I just had some business dealings with a children’s film festival, and asked them, and they hemmed and hawed and finally said they didn’t think it was age appropriate, and that’s for secular kids who see “everything” !!!

They recommended Wicked, btw.

I did not know that they were making a movie of Wicked. I haven't seen the play, but I read the book.

We saw "Enchanted" with my daughter and it was fabulous!! But definately not for really frum kids because the guys (yes two of them) kiss the fairy tale princess at the end of the movie to counteract the spell of the wicked step mother-queen. Only for kids who are growing up on Disney movies (Snow White, Cinderella, Sleeping Beauty, etc.)

Not a movie. It’s a Broadway show.

Wicked may be a Broadway show, but High School Musical is a movie.
