I use macintosh apples. I just wash them and cut out the stem then I put them in a baking pan and pour black cherry soda on and around then about 2 inch's high. (I use diet soda) then I sprinkle the apples with cinnamin and splenda (u can use sugar). I bake for about an hour until the apples get a bit mushy. The soda becomes sweet and syrupy....

healthy baked apples.

use any apples, choose sweet ones, if you like that. (instead of tart, like green ones)

cut out stems.

mix cinnamon and sugar with a little water.

pour into the hole where stem used to be.

bake (at least an hour)

enjoy!

(you can use more of the sugar mixture, or less, depending on how sweet and gooey you want the apples)

Apple corers are the best invention. I use it all the time, whenever I make anything with apples. Just take out the core and the apple is so easy to cut up.

There is this incredible baked apple recipe in Kosher by Design Short on Time. Basically, you fill the apples with an oatmeal brown sugar mixture (similar to the topping of an apple cranberry crumble), and then make this sauce with apple juice, honey, and cinnamon. It is soo delicious...DH has been asking me to make it each week LOL . If you don't have the cookbook and are interested in the recipe, I'd be happy to post it for you.

on bottom of pan put some of this mixture:

then top with more of crumble

The baked apples with the crumb topping sounds amazing!! I should try it sometime!!

When we were growing up, my Mom used to make baked-apples this way:
Core apples, but not all the way down. fill the "holes" with dates, and sprinkle with cinnamon.

It comes out really yummy and sweet!!! (it's not even necessary to add sugar because the dates are so sweet).

Sure, I have it typed up already, here goes...

3/4 c. flour
3/4 c. dark brown sugar
1/2 c. old fashioned oats
6 tablespoons unsalted butter or margarine (I use oil)
3 medium red apples, such as macintosh or cortland
3 medium green apples, such as granny smith
1 cup apple juice
1/2 cup honey
2 teaspoons cinnamon

Preheat oven to 425 degrees. Prepare the streusel filling: In a medium bowl, combine flour, brown sugar, oats, an melted butter. Pinch to form coarse crumbs. Set aside.

Wash the apples and, with a melon baller, carefully scoop out the core, creating a "bowl" about 2 inches in diameter. Be careful not to go all the way to the bottom or to break the sides.

Fill each apple with the streusel filling, stuffing them to their tops.

Arrange the apples in a shallow 9- by 9-inch baking dish.

In a small bowl, stir the apple juice, honey, and cinnamon. Pour into the baking pan.

Bake, uncovered, for 25-30 minutes or until apples are tender. If the streusel starts to burn, loosely cover with a piece of foil.

To serve, drizzle the apples with the pan juices and serve warm with a scoop of your favorite ice cream or whipped cream.

Enjoy these apples, they are so yummy! Very Happy

question: On Friday night do you serve it warm or cold? If warm, how do you ,keep it warm? And how would you put the whip cream or ice cream on somthing hot? That would be a problem with bishul. Confused

Personally, I don't add whipped or ice cream to this sort of stuff. I find it makes it much too sweet. As for keeping it warm, I plan to underbake it a bit and then put it on a rack on my plata. It'll stay hot and bake some more.

I normally do the same thing. I under bake it a bit and either put it in the oven on 250/lower or put it on the hotplate.
I don't like whipcream on it, and so I don't serve it. But it shouldn't be a problem if you do Kli Shlishi.

My grandmother makes baked apples with Cortland apples. She cores them and puts yellow raisons in the hole, and pours white grape juice over them before baking. Sooooooo good!
