I'm making this with my students tomorrow and I just tried it out myself! It's yum and fun!

1 T sugar
1/2 cup milk or half & half (I used soy milk)
1/4 tsp vanilla
6 T. rock salt (can also use regular salt)
1 pint size ziploc bag (best if freezer)
1 gallon size ziploc (best: freezer)
ice cubes

In the large bag: 1/2 full of ice cubes, add rock salt.
smaller bag: milk, vanilla and sugar. seal.
put small bag into large one and seal. Shake until mixture is ice cream (15 minutes).
enjoy!

That's so funny as I recently saw such a gimmik being sold in a catalog. (don't remember which one) but basically a bag to make ice cream in. (they suggested taking it on a picnic with kids and using it as a ball)

You literally get ice cream? I'm assuming after the 15 minutes one has to put it in the freezer to harden/get cold??????????????????

true, however I'm assuming after being shaken around for 15 minutes you would be left with creamy liquod.

that is how ice cream makers are made from ice and rock salt.

you are right the more you whip it the more you get cream or butter.

Wow. My kids would LOVE this. What is rock salt? Is it the same as kosher salt?

you can use regular salt.
if you shake it long enough it will be like ice cream! no freezer necessary!!
