We send our 3 yr old to hebrew speaking Gan. He's usually pretty good about speaking the correct language to the appropriate pple but sometimes he can get confused. This week he said 2 really funny "hebrish" sentences-

He said, "Mommy, today a lady came to my gan and was tzalem me!"

Later, he said, "Mommy, do you know where my otto is?"
"I dont," I answered.
He thought for a minute and then said, "Oh. did it go to ibood?"

well, she does live in israel, no? wouldn't make any sense to send her child to a non-hebrew speaking gan, IMO!

my children mix languages too, I don't notice it anymore, but it sure is cute! they do know which language to speak to whom, but to me and dh they mix freely, whatever comes to mind first!

Pearl-
the truth is that many English speakers here davka send to English speaking ganim just so that their kids will have a little bit of reinforced english outside the home, at least in the early years.
Personally, I feel otherwise. I'm sending my 3 yr old to cheder next year whitch is, of course, hebrew speaking. The adjustment to big classes is overwhelming as it is. Why make it more difficult for my child by creating a language handicap on top of everything else?

In Gibraltar we speak english and spanish. my kids also learn hebrew in school and in high school will learnt french. The more languages a child speaks the better for him in the future.
I grew up speaking english and spanish, learnt french in school and am now learning hebrew.
My 2 year old mixes english and spanish but when she´s older she´ll learnt no to.
