I used to be a charmed eternally young type. I'd put nothing on so there was nothing to wear off. Suddenly I'm past 30 and poof. My clothes don't fit and my face is a mess. It's a whole new world and I hate it.

Vent over, what do I need to buy to look nice the day (or two) after I put it on?

I find that the more makeup I put on before YT or shabbat, the worse it looks at the end. I'm very fair, so I tint my eyebrows and lashes, moisurise my skin and lips well, and try to get some sleep (easier said than done...!)

I apply makeup when I go out. Dh insists and I don’t care much either way so may as well do what he wants.

Apply a good primer on top of your moisturizer. Make sure to put on waterproof mascara, a few coats of long lasting lipstick. Apply a thick coat of foundation and then blush. Then apply foundation to your cheeks again and then blush again. Set with powder and Then use a finishing spray on your face.
At night sleep on a slip, it really prevents the makeup from coming off.

8 layers, mostly of products I never heard of?! Is this what all the pretty people do? Nobody like me who gets out of the shower 5 minutes before Shabbos?

I'm with you. All that makeup would ruin my skin. And DH hates the look of a 'made up face'

Take out your contacts. Very Happy

You need to find skin CARE products (not makeup) that are good for you. Try starting with natural moisturizers like olive oil, coconut oil, or shea butter. If none of those do the trick you can try more expensive manufactured products.

I'm past 30, and my skin doesn't look as good, but aside for one pimple on my forehead that isn't going away, I'm not too bothered. I also never wear makeup.

I find that for me, having eye makeup on makes a very big difference. I use a waterproof eyeliner and mascara. And I wear eye shadow too.
Another thing that makes a big difference in my appearance is lipstick. I have a trick that works most of the time. I have a certain company long lasting lipstick which I coat with lip sealer.then I put on another layer and top with a moisturizing lip gloss .
I use moisturizer on my skin, primer and Foundation. Blush of course and then use a tiny bit of powder.
My face looks okay on shabbos but not too great on a two day yomtov.

What do you use to tint your eyebrows and lashes? Do you do it yourself?

I've been tinting my (completely blonde) eyebrows brown by myself for years! I use a permanent hair dye (best to get the small bottles used for touching up roots). Currently I'm using "garnier natural colour creme" but really anything works. Loreal is also good. I use Q-tips to put vaseline around the brow area (where I don't want to dye) and then paint on the hair dye using a different Q-tip. Wait as long as written on the packet and remove. I usually need to leave mine for for about half an hour. Works great.

Lash tinting I only get done in a salon - too risky (and practically, impossible to do alone!)

I look how I look... didnt notice something at 30 especially. I'm not going to be problematic or do half forbidden stuff so I can hide how I look... I just don't think of it.

I am sorry your DH “insists” you do this. Sounds very unhealthy to me. Crying

I don't know of any tricks to keep makeup looking good. Maybe try one of those makeup sprays that claim to keep makeup looking good.
